I went to Gyu-Kaku today with a friend who recommended it as "something different". The restaurant is located in the business center on the corner of Warner and Beach, facing Warner, in what resembles a strip mall. The decor is dark. The music was very loud and we asked for it to be turned down a little, but although we were told they would, if they did it wasn't by much, so conversation was difficult. The food, however, is really good. We bought the Meat Lovers Course lunch for two for $55 (salad, two appetizers, soup, rice, five styles of beef and dessert, and asparagus as an extra. There is a gas grill set into the center of the table and you cook your meat and vegetable (in a foil packet) on the grill to your own desired doneness. Our server was very polite and attentive but not intrusive. She instructed us on the use of the grill (use the tongs on the raw meat, not the chopsticks so you won't get sick) and provided forks when we asked for them. There is a good selections of alcoholic drinks (we had green iced tea) and a good selection of a la carte foods, including shrimp. It seems to be a popular place for lunch and dinner, and I would consider going back if it wasn't for the fact that the music was so darned loud!
