Description: Social dining - spending time with friends and family - is what Gyu-Kaku (GEW-KAH-KOO) is all about. Gyu-Kaku offers the fun of ‘shared plates,’ inspiring laughter, conversation, and good times. You can’t help it – with a personal grill installed at every table, everyone instantly becomes an expert cook. The staff at Gyu-Kaku are friendly, leading you through the night with helpful suggestions. The sounds around you are of parties and laughter - the perfect choice for first dates, families, and catching up with friends. Gyu-Kaku, meaning "Horn of the Bull" in Japanese provides the authentic Japanese Yakiniku (barbeque) dining experience where our customers share premium cooked meats over a flaming charcoal grill while sipping on Japanese Sake, Shochu and frosty cold beers.

“Good food, but very loud music”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

I went to Gyu-Kaku today with a friend who recommended it as "something different". The restaurant is located in the business center on the corner of Warner and Beach, facing Warner, in what resembles a strip mall. The decor is dark. The music was very loud and we asked for it to be turned down a little, but although we were told they would, if they did it wasn't by much, so conversation was difficult. The food, however, is really good. We bought the Meat Lovers Course lunch for two for $55 (salad, two appetizers, soup, rice, five styles of beef and dessert, and asparagus as an extra. There is a gas grill set into the center of the table and you cook your meat and vegetable (in a foil packet) on the grill to your own desired doneness. Our server was very polite and attentive but not intrusive. She instructed us on the use of the grill (use the tongs on the raw meat, not the chopsticks so you won't get sick) and provided forks when we asked for them. There is a good selections of alcoholic drinks (we had green iced tea) and a good selection of a la carte foods, including shrimp. It seems to be a popular place for lunch and dinner, and I would consider going back if it wasn't for the fact that the music was so darned loud!

“Great Experience Dining”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

Unlike most restaurants where you order you food and wait for it to be brought to your table to dig in, Gyu Kaku provides you with the cooking experience as well. After you order, the staff with bring out raw meats and vegetables and fire up the grill in the middle of your table.

This is a great place to take a date or a small party. I wouldn't recommend going with a larger party as there's only one grill per table and it gets tricky to get everything cooked and distributed.

They also have a great happy hour. If you are going for the first time, definitely make a reservation during happy hour so that you can try a variety of items on the menu for cheap.

Some items I would recommend ordering:
- Garlic Noodles
- Yakishabu
- Toro Beef
- Cheese Wontons
- Bistro Harami

“J-BBQ at its best”
Reviewed October 22, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

We booked a reservation for a friday night and it was one of the best places to have dinner. Non-pretentious, very casual hangout, Gyu-Kaku is a great place to get together and enjoy japanse bbq. Theres tons of selections and a variety drinks to compliment the food. If you can, do the happy hour ... very good value for your buck!

“Surprisingly good food and value.”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Not a fancy place, but a friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff, plenty of good Robata fair, and an excellent value. The exotic mushroom combo and the thinly sliced beef tongue were standouts in a tasty menu with no noticeable faults.

“One of the great places to eat in the local area”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Just a darn good place to eat Japanese BBQ. At this place you grill some of the raw meat and veg entrees right on your table top charcoal grill. There is a wide selection of every animal (duck, lamb, chicken, beef, seafood, pork) and plant, either marinated or cooked. They have revamped their cocktail menu, and as an avid drinker, I really think they are much better (ex-the black martini, red dragon...yum). Try to come during their happy hour, all day Monday, from open to 6:30pm, and then again after 9pm till close during the rest of the week. It's the best value for the money, inluding food and drink specials. Hint, hint...call for a reservation to get you faster seating, this place is popular.
