If you're in HB or anywhere close, and you've got a dog, try dog beach! It's free and fun! Parking can be tough and requires parking in a meter (I think they all take debit and credit cards). Dogs run free, so be prepared to have strange dogs jump on your and sniff your doggie's butt, but that's what dogs do, right? Dog beach is great!
Even if you have no dog, you can enjoy watching others. Every May there is a Beaglefest here.....it's dog-ear heaven.
I like this park because it is easy to get to, and has a large parking lot. I usually go when it isn’t very crowded and take my three big dogs and just walk around the perimeter. It has wood chips instead of grass, so make sure to wear closed toe shoes. They frequently don’t have poop bags at their stations, so you may want to bring your own. There is a separate area for Small dogs. The Big Dog yard is spacious, with several places to sit. My dogs like to accompany me when I go grocery shopping at Ralph’s on Goldenwest. As a treat for them patiently waiting in the car and guarding it, they get to amble around off-leash at the dog park for a few minutes since it is fairly close to Ralph’s.
I took my son here while he was visiting from out of town. Had to bring his dog along for the trip. I was amazed at just how well ALL the dogs seem to get along with each other. Fun to watch some dogs confront the ocean waves for the first time. Wore out my son's dog. My only complaint is to the dog owners who don't seem to have enough respect for everyone else when they don't clean up their dog messes. Disgusting. Always takes only a few idiots that have to spoil it for everyone else.
A nice set up but too many bullying dogs here. I have tried to take each dog we had here, ONCE. Though not of them were aggressive, they all got attacked. They have a small dog section. If you are not sure, try standing outside the fence with your dog. If other dogs come over barking, growling, and biting the chainlink, do not expose your dog to this park.
Two areas- one for larger dogs and one for small dogs. all enclosed. ground cover is wood chips not comfortable for small dogs. Dusty so you and your dog will get dirty.
