Dog beach is quite unique. Sights of running, playing off-leash canines is common. Many folks go without their dogs just to walk on the beach and see how much fun everyone is having. There are 2 pay parking lots. Neither is very large but the one closest to the pier has more spots. You can pay by credit card. On sunny weekends and all summer long, there will be a line stretching from the north on PCH to get into the lots. You'll have the best luck arriving from the north going to the second parking lot. Turning left into the lots from the south is difficult. There is no neighborhood parking within a mile. Or go late afternoon - the bluffs protect the beach and the temperature at the shore stays warm. Bring a jug of water to wash Fidos feet.

My first time taking my rescue dog of 2 years to the ocean and it was a blast. There is plenty of room for many dogs. It is clean and everyone is very nice while all monitor their dogs well. Plus, about a half mile away, the Shorebreak Hotel is pet-friendly and awesome place to stay.

A local favorite, a great place for visitors to bring their dogs, doggie poop bags available, no leasese, totally great place for dog lovers and non-dog lovers to hang out all day. Parking only issue, so come early.

This is probably one of the best adventures that you can have with your 4 legged child! Lots of others dogs to run with and I have very rarely observed a problem. Your do should be bodysurfing in no time at all! Show up early on weekends or expect to wait in line for parking unless you park and walk from the Bolsa Chica State Bch lot or somewhere east of Goldenwest St. I suggest that you bring a plastic sack to put your stuff in as I have had my blackets tinkled on 3X by dogs. No big deal - its dog beach after all. Also a jug or cooler of water and a towel to wash your dog off from all the sand.

Be sure to buy a "Dog is my co-pilot" shirt or donate to the preservation non-profit that manages the beach.

just got back from a trip to Miami's SOUTH BEACH - and here in HUNTINGTON BEACH - we have them bet!!! - beautiful soft fine sand in SoBe - but not doggie friendly as we are here..locals take for granted our dog beach - I won't any more ...

took our 'mutt' to dog beach as we have done , so many times in the past and was glad to be HOME again...plentiful doggie bags ( we still bring our own ) love that dogs can be off- leash , we tend to park at the garage on Main str. and walk Ivy to the dog beach - makes for a decent walk going back to garage, by that time most of the sand have fallen off of her and us !

agree - you should have a 'dog friendly' dog who will get along with other dogs AND people - otherwise you will ruin a day for responsible dog owners ..

also nice in the summer for 'surf camps' who share the same beach and local moms and sit to watch the tikes learn to surf while dogs get their exercises too..
