This place is for kids! And seems managed and run by teenagers! Here is a list of my experience:

Requests for car, early room clean-up not fullfilled.
gascap off car,
car seat adjusted to max recline each time
rap music on each time car was brought up
No pens or paper in room.
Rooms show wear.
Captain Nemo was shown on drive in movie screen that was outside my room - loud until 10pm..
Kids...darling families...
kids running in the halls at night until 11pm.
Very capable hostess at Californian in PM
Only Orange Co Register for newspaper
Sounds of parties echoed through the courtyards until 3am
Bathtub not clean enough for bath
wonderful Spa
wonderful massage

This hotel needs to decide if it is a spa or Camp Hyatt.
Unfortunately, it seems that this is the best HB has to offer.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Hyatt Huntington Beach for a full week in mid August. We got a very nice AAA rate that included a full breakfast for two, and connecting rooms. We had a wonderful week because the area is so nice and the beach beautiful, but there were some significant problems at the hotel itself. First, our room was not ready until 30 minutes after the check in time. This was a minor annoyance since we had arrived from the East Coast at 1:00 and were very anxious to get into our room. But the main problem was that when we booked the reservation weeks ago, we had specifically requested a refrigerator in the room for some medication that my husband takes. On check in, we were told that it would be put in the room when the room was ready. Well, no refrigerator was there. When we called to mention this, we were told that there were no more refrigerators at the hotel. To make a long story short, we finally received a working refrigerator at about 11:00 PM, after the first one was non-functioning. This was thanks to the efforts of one very sincere employee in housekeeping, who even sent my kids cookies and candy to apologize. Other than that first day, we liked the hotel. Positives: beautiful property, nice view from rooms, close to beach, staff very friendly, spacious rooms. Negatives: spotty service in restaurants (breakfast was served by very friendly waiters but still delays on getting coffee and water served), spotty housekeeping (bathroom mostly), valet parking is very expensive and no self-park option. This would not be a good choice for someone handicapped, as it is a HUGE property - lots of walking!!

Just returned from a week in So. Cal. with 3 nights at Hyatt. This is an incredibly beautiful and well run property. Very attentive service in every area. Large and tasteful rooms, relaxing pool, fitness and spa areas and very easy alternatives to the hotel for meals. Spark's restaurant just down the street offers one of the best wood-grilled steaks you will ever find with a patio view of the Pacific. Extremely family friendly. Easy access to beach (although generally rough for swimming). Unfortunately, $25 night for valet parking is the standard in So. Cal., but they have a staff of valets who will have your car to you in seconds. If you are looking for relaxation and gorgeous surroundings in the heart of the OC, this is it!

Our group of 4, 2 adults and 2 teens (18 and 16) stayed for 4 nights in a junior suite.

First, the good:

The whole resort is beautifully decorated, landscaped and maintained. Our 900 sq. ft. suite consisted of a large living room, separate king BR, two full baths and a huge balcony. A king size pillow top mattress is always nice and the jetted soaking tub was a hit. Our rooms were totally isolated from outside noise or maybe we were just too wiped out to notice after long days on the beach. Furnishings are very nice and the rooms were of generous size with plenty of space for the 4 of us. The staff was pleasant and helpful, nothing to complain about there. Did I mention that the place is beautiful?

The not so good:

At $550/night they should gladly park you for free. Nope, $25/night, valet only. Your only other option is to park across the street at the beach lot for $10. We did that. Only hitch there is that you must be in that lot by 9 P.M. Parking in general in Ca. is outrageous so this is not that unusual, I guess. Add 11% tax, $10/day resort fee, $10/day for internet and things will start to add up. A small but disappointing detail is that there is no guest laundry. Oh, they will wash it for you for a substantial charge. $3/each for T-shirts and underwear! I stopped reading after that. That's just mean. Two minor problems with our room: A couple times an hour, a loud clunking noise from the HVAC unit. Loud enough to wake a light sleeper. Also, one of the supplied blow dryers didn't work. No biggie.

Overall we had a terrific time at the Hyatt. It's easily the nicest place in Huntington Beach. The walkway over the PCH leads to a very wide beach and an asphalt "boardwalk" with about a 15 minute walk to the downtown area. Decent eateries and lots of surf shops for the teens. The 1800' long pier is entertaining as well with Ruby's at the end offering good diner style food and great shakes! Surfers everywhere!

I would go 5 stars on this one if not for the overly high charges on some of the services here. Still, it's lovely and we highly recommend it.

Booked our vacation on very short notice and got a great rate that included parking and resort fee. Have traveled extensively and found this property to be excellent. Traveling with 2 teen-age boys who loved the location on the beach and close to the pier.

Facility was extremely well appointed and maintained. Lush grounds and pool area. Very quiet and yet close to everything. Staff helpful and pleasant.

Stayed 5 days then moved to the Ritz Carlton Huntington - in comparison the Hyatt was much more comfortable and better appointed. Would highly recommend the Hyatt Regency - plan to return!!

Family from Chicago.
