“Winter RVing nice place way off the highway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014

About 11 km off the highway, so just keep going. We stayed one night January 16,2014. Lovely cement pad sites with pull-thru's or back-ins. Right by the river. There is a restaurant on site, but we knew it would be out in the boonies so we were prepared with our own meal to cook. I must admit if you came in the summer the sites do not have trees, only trees are along the shore of the river. A little price for winter @ $20+ taxes for the night, but hey you're in California. When we drove in we didn't know where the office was but a lady jumped in her vehicle and came driving up, I guess they winter here in they're 5thwheel, so very accommodating. We'd stop again. Yes they have WiFi but park near the restrooms but no TV signals, but then again the mountains probably block anything, and they are Passport Am. clients.

Wow - Where to begin. First of all, they've spent a lot of money on advertising which is smart because that's what got us there to begin with. They have a huge billboard on I-5, well placed & it looks great. Then when you go to the website, it's listed as Klamath Ranch Resort with a restaurant, etc. Needless to say from the advertising, I was expecting Lake Las Vegas. We definitely paid resort prices (almost $70) but were extremely disappointed. We were so tired we decided to stay but I really wish we hadn't. It is very hot. There is no phone signal and no wi-fi. The restaurant closed at 7 pm & wasn't open the following day for breakfast. We should have paid $35 tops. They have no military discount. Their water smelled like rotten eggs and we ended up using our own. We couldn't leave fast enough. The reason I provided an average rating rather than poor? The river is beautiful and the bathroom/laundry facilities were nice. I would only go back to this place if they lowered their prices significantly.

We've stayed here several times and always enjoy ourselves. It's true, there isn't much shade, but if your RV has an awning (most do nowadays), you'll be fine. The trees they planted are still fairly small, but once they mature, they'll provide lots of nice shady areas on the side away from the river. It does get hot during the day and cools off at night.

The draw for us is the Klamath River - it's literally just feet from your RV - and the fishing is GREAT! If you like Salmon and Steelhead, this is the place to go. We fish right off the banks and always catch a few big ones! If you don't like fishing, there's not a lot to do there at the resort, but Oregon is close for short day trips to shop, etc. Also, for the ladies, a little Tea Shop in Montague about 20 min. away has wonderful high teas and gift items. We also enjoy the wildlife. We've been there when the Blue Herons (the resort's namesake) are nesting in the giant trees near the river. We love to watch them fly back and forth getting food to feed their young ones high up in their nests. And, a small band of wild horses visit frequently in the evenings.

Also, the Fish Hook Restaurant, right at the resort has GREAT FOOD! We make a point of having dinner there at least once during every visit. The resort is pet friendly, VERY clean and we have found the owners to be VERY nice and accommodating.

It's a little pricey at $59 per night, but if you book 4 nights, the 4th night is free! We are there are least once each year and always have a great stay.

This park is just ok. Very little shade for the RVs to park in and the area can be very hot. What shade is available, the parking areas that face the river, is reserved for the diesel pushers. The rest of us in 5th wheels and trailers are sent across the driveway to park facing the hot, dry hills, without a hint of shade. Even with most of the better parking spaces not occupied, we were not allowed to park in them. Most of our interactions were with the lady owner and you got the distinct impression that she has little perception, or at least sensitivity, to her guests. My wife rented a raft from her to use on the river, twenty bucks or so. We gave her cash, and then she said, "I also need sales tax." When my wife asked how long she could use the raft, the lady had no idea, she said that, "just go ahead and use it awhile." After you rented the raft, there was a twenty dollar trip fee to take you up the river several miles and drop you off and then pick you up several miles down the river past the resort. We didn't mind paying the couple of bucks for sales tax, or even the twenty bucks for the four mile ride, it is just the attitude or the gestalt of the transaction that made you feel like a plucked game hen. The resort charged $59.00 per night despite the fact that it has no pool or other amenities. You are paying for a hot, direct sun exposed concrete parking pad, without any shade, placed facing against sun parched hills; they do have restrooms, showers and laundry which we didn't use or see. My impression of this place is that they are trying to build up a resort and want guests to finance it by paying more than it's worth to stay there; there doesn't seem to be any customer appreciation or "goodwill" for the guests which would enhance their efforts tremendously. Many RV resorts are quite friendly and make you feel at home when you use their facilities, not like an offender in traffic court trying to get out of a speeding ticket. I will say that the place is clean and you do have full hook-ups. We decided to leave a day early and wouldn't consider going back or recommending this "resort" to a friend.
