There's a good nursery and a cafe manned by cool staff ;) There's a picnic ground with ample play area for kids. And a nice route for those who like walking or cycling. Just nice!

It's all about sustainable living, Eco-friendly thinking and a great day out. I can't imagine why anyone would complain about the cost (see other reviews). It's free to get in, you can wander at leisure around the gardens, chat to the chooks, read all the information, visit the pretty little (free) book exchange and then if you choose, pay the same price for a cup of coffee (or cafe food) as anywhere else. An amazing community feel, and a bonus of a pretty little cafe, restaurant, organic fruit and veg stall, and a little shop full of dinky "stuff" such as teas and soaps and food stuffs. Such a happy, real, earthy place to visit! What's not to love!

It's a nice place but you won't find any plants here that can't be bought at Bunnings for less. Wanted to try the cafe at around 4pm on a weekday, stood beside the sign that said Please Wait To Be Seated. Waited for a few minutes, nobody noticed I was there so I coughed to get somebody's attention. Finally was told "sorry we close at 3". If it closes at 3, why was the door still open ? 45 dollars for a smallish book on growing tomatoes ? No thanks.
Nice place to visit, but you need to be rich to afford anything.

Always ALWAYS great to take a date or family to CERES. Good to stroll around for garden inspiration. Definitely go to the cafe, have a coffee and order the Dukkah Eggs.

Ceres is the place to come to learn about how to become more eco friendly and live a sustainable life. It is located beside the Merri Creek trail in Melbourne's north. Amongst the extensive allotments you will find a large farm shop selling such things as grow your own mushroom kits. One field is full of hens, there's a pond and a couple of huts where you can learn about indigenous uses for plants. Around the site are information panels explaining aboriginal gestures and language. There's a small art gallery in a converted railway carriage and a very popular café with kids play area. You can get here by taking the 96 tram up Nicholson St to its final stop and following signs for 5 minutes, or you can just walk in directly from the Merri Creek walking / cycle track. If you are here on Saturdays between 10.30am-1.30pm you can have a look in an eco house.
