CERES is really a breath of fresh air - we love wondering down there to the cafe or market. The food at the cafe is great and they serve local beers which is a nice touch - service can be a bit chaotic and slow so give yourself plenty of time.
The market has good local produce and great bread - you need to get there early for that.
It is good to see what is happening in the gardens too and dogs are welcome

I visited here with my man for the market scene. We ordered coffee which was extremely tasty. The pastry was a little dry and no plate provided. The organic scene is not something I have explored but the vegetable and fruit market section was well stocked with produce of all kinds, dirt and all. The surrounding area was lovely with chooks penned but having plenty of land to roam, cafe which we did not visit but had people there and the gardens well planted with the next lot of crops. It is in effect an environment park in the middle of suburbia with a market twist on some saturdays. The Nursery was very impressive !

CERES is such a surprise - 4 hectares just out of Melbourne CBD with a permaculture nursery, cafe, educational programs, market (Wed and Sat), bike repairs, art exhibitions, store, kids playground spaces and garden allotments (and more!). CERES is a not for profit educational organisation, located on rehabilitated landfill in East Brunswick, Melbourne. The cafe serves great food in a relaxed outdoor setting. Purified water available on tap. Inspiring to see the great variety of activity including people dropping off bikes for repairs or to create new bikes from salvaged parts of old bikes. We spotted free range chooks wandering around in the permaculture nursery. CERES triumphs organic gardening, recycling, and creative responses to contributing positively to the environment. A lovely place to relax, and stroll, and to be 'grounded' in a way that inspires, and fosters connections between people, and with the environment. Definitely recommended!

I did not choose the food but when it arrived it was cold and the portions were small. Water was not regularly brought to the table on a hot day and it appeared to be uinder staffed and a bit of a shambles

Great place for a family half day out, great little cafe with interesting food. Lots for the kids to look at, chickens, allotments, pond dipping when we were there. Organic food market.
