Owner description: The history of the lighthouse began over 500 years ago when a landmark was needed by the Hanseatic League in the first place, as their merchants were complaining about ships disappearing in the Baltic Sea. The highest hill (68 m) of Hiiumaa, the Tornimagi, became the location of the lighthouse. In 1531 a massive stone tower was erected.Interesting to know:• Kopu is the third oldest constantly active lighthouse worldwide• In 1660 iron stairs were constructed on the outer wall of the tower.• In 1810 a staircase was built inside the tower

If you dont have been in Kõpu tuletorn, then you don't have been in Hiiumaa :)
It's really nice outside and inside, and more fantastic views!
Its best to visit before closing time, then there is not so much visitors.

Thank AiveV

Nice authentic, ancient lighthouse. I really liked those panoramic views from the top. Worth visiting!

Of course lighthouse is magnificent. Majestic, white, massive and very very old. It is easy to find it even if you travel on car. Of course it is more easy to notice it from mast of Your tallship, but if you want to touch almost 400 years old walls you need to move over island. Nowadays car can bring you from ferry port to lighthouse in some hours. Keep in mind that road signs are on Estonian, so look for "Kõpu tuletorn". Yeah! Almost forget - remember that on this remote island exist time called "no season" so if you want to climb on lighthouse (it is far from easy job) visit in summer.

This is a very historical lighthouse in Estonia. If you visit Hiiumaa (Dagö in Swedish) you should visit here with your family, friends, etc. There is a small caffee close by and also nice visit is the Kalana harbour located close.

One of most wonderful lighthouses on island. And at the same time this lighthouse has oldest history in Estonia and Baltic states - more than 500 years!
There are nice cafe nearby and small playground for smaller children. :) Nice place to visit and relax.
