Diamond Valley Lake

Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Diamond Valley Lake is a drinking water reservoir built, owned and operated by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. This reservoir is an important component to providing water for 18 million Southern Californians, and is a critical lifeline in times of drought. To protect this resource, no body contact with the water is permitted. However, the Diamond Valley Aquatic Center, located near the entrance to the lake, allows for plenty of fun in the water. The Diamond Valley Visitor Center and the Western Science Center, which houses 1 million paleo and archaeo artifacts found during the construction of the Lake, are also located at the entrance to Diamond Valley Lake. The Lake and the surrounding hills have also become known for the spectacular wildflower blooms each spring, and are popular among hikers. Non-motorized bicycles are also permitted on the Lake View Trail, and equestrians can enjoy the North Hills Trail.

“Nice lake!”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Huge lake, great for boating or fishing. Wonderful hiking trails. The only reason it doesn't rate a five is that I prefer lakes with an abundance of trees, and there aren't many here. You can rent boats for good price. Fun to rent a pontoon for half a day just to relax with friends. Also, very convienent to town.

“Long bike ride but worth it!”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

My husband, brother and sister in law and I went to Diamond Valley to ride our mountain bikes around it. We had never been before and didn't realize it would take us over four hours to complete. It was fun and long, a couple of us were sore somewhat from the length. The views are spectacular. The ride does have some hilly areas, so endurance is the key. I would do again, I love hills! Take food and water and a jacket in the cooler months, a part of the ride got somewhat windy up there:).

“Nice course, basic amenities.”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

No club house for relaxing with a cold one after a hot day on the course but it's nice to see deer, hawks and all the wildlife out here.
