Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Diamond Valley Lake is a drinking water reservoir built, owned and operated by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. This reservoir is an important component to providing water for 18 million Southern Californians, and is a critical lifeline in times of drought. To protect this resource, no body contact with the water is permitted. However, the Diamond Valley Aquatic Center, located near the entrance to the lake, allows for plenty of fun in the water. The Diamond Valley Visitor Center and the Western Science Center, which houses 1 million paleo and archaeo artifacts found during the construction of the Lake, are also located at the entrance to Diamond Valley Lake. The Lake and the surrounding hills have also become known for the spectacular wildflower blooms each spring, and are popular among hikers. Non-motorized bicycles are also permitted on the Lake View Trail, and equestrians can enjoy the North Hills Trail.

“Lots to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

I haven't been on the lake, but have been around it quite a bit. I grew up watching the lake being built. On the west side is the lookout point, open on the weekends for free. It offers you a look over the lake and the west dam, pumping station and inlet/outlet tower. One the east side is a recreation area with ball fields and an aquatic center. Also be sure to check out the Western Science Center.

There are all sorts of trails around the lake. There's a small fee to access them. The best time to hike is during the spring when the wild flowers are in bloom. It's spectacular!

“What a Gem!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2012

Diamond Valley Lake offers great fishing and bird watching. There is a lookout point over the lake that offers vistas of not only the lake, but the valley below. Look for the hill that looks just like George Washington's face! Down below, there is an excellent museum. Here you will find local history, artifacts, and the bones of the mammoths discovered during excavation for the lake. Also, there is a free visitor's center, a museum in itself! For the kids, a water park. This is a great attraction.

Nice lake, have to catch the right weather, sometimes can be really cold, or so blasted hot.  Fishing is great, marina does a great job too.
