“Mexican Comfort Food”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

Just north of the Hemet Depot, in an unimposing strip center, is a hidden gem of Mexican cuisine. Walk in, smell the aromas, and your tummy will tell you that you are home. The menu shows a wide variety and all food is freshly prepared. Enjoy the hot corn chips with excellent salsa as you await your meal. It is family owned and the interior and food show it. PS - the price is excellent!

“Carnitas Tacos (Gringo-Style)”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

I broke my own rule. For good tacos, you need to go to a taqueria. As nice as the atmosphere is inside El Jalapeño, the food falls far short of acceptable Mexican cuisine. In my opinion, when you add a large dollop of guacamole to anything, all you taste is the guacamole. This is what they did to the carnitas tacos that I ordered. It's hard to even comment on the taste of the pork when it was so overshadowed. Unfortunately, even the beans tasted like they were simply warmed up straight out of the can. In comparison, I had just had some wonderful frijoles a la Olla a few nights earlier down the road at Los Vaqueros. Those served at El Jalapeño suffer in comparison. There are so many good Mexican eateries on and around Florida Ave. that I would be very hard pressed to return here. In fact, just up the way on San Jacinto, Elena's Cafe makes a killer authentic carnitas taco. Hours after the meal, I still felt as though I had a lead weight at the bottom of my stomach - it was undoubtedly these dollops of guacamole determined not to let me forget this dinning experience.

“The Best ever”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

We have been there at least twice a month for the last year. This is family owned. Your ice tea or coffee cup never gets empty. The food is great.
