We stayed at Madrona Manor for three nights, and it was perfect. We had booked the Cottage, but were upgraded to the Schoolhouse due to some potential gardening work near the Cottage. The Schoolhouse room was large and very comfortable, with a lovely deck for stargazing at night. Even in late October the grounds and garden were lovely. The owner stopped by our table at breakfast on two mornings, and remembered our names and even our hobbies. Speaking of breakfast, everything is very fresh, simple, and good. The staff was very accommodating with our questions at booking, changes to our reservations, etc. Can't wait to go back!

From the moment we drove through the beautiful arched entry, Madrona Manor exceeded our expectations. The gardens and grounds appear to be meticulously maintained and lend to an absolutely gorgeous picturesque views from many locales of the properties. Our check-in was prompt. The staff was quite helpful and quickly offered assistance in the way of wine tours and dinner arrangements. ( of course MM supposedly has an amazing restaurant for dinner, however, the staff were quite complimentary of the reservations we had made at two different restaurants in town for both evenings of our stay...and even added that we should go early for their excellent cocktails, etc... loved that MM staff did not try to push us into having dinner there..even though their restaurant wasnt booked for the evening)

Our room in the carriage house was lovely. Room 504..upstairs with a day bed and balcony. The bed was so beautiful and comfortable that it made me feel like a princess! After peering into a few of the other rooms that people have checked out of, I do believe that I would choose to stay in a room in the Mansion itself, next time, as the one that I saw (101) was significantly more regal in decor than the 5 rooms that I saw in the carriage house.

The pool was heated and absolutely gorgeous. The concrete support wall behind had beautifully painted flowers in time period colors of aqua and lavender that added a very dreamy back to the 1800s feel.

I am a definite "foodie" and felt the breakfasts were delicious. Assortment of baked goods were obviously home-made and absolutely divine. They had a nice variety of popovers, croissants and various sliced breads. Buffet was beautifully presented and included high quality fresh fruit and soft cheeses, ham (certainly not the processed, formed with extra water!), interesting sausages (not sure what type...but probably a chicken or duck with herbs), pico de gallo made of flavorful and high quality tomatoes, and a hot dish each morning. (One morning was a crustless quiche with gruyere, potatoes and some spice to it, next morning was a tortilla scramble.

The only negative that we experienced was with the timing of the housekeeping services. After breakfast and a swim in the pool, we didn't leave the Manor for the wineries until around 12:30. Housekeeping knocked on the door, handed us cookies (delicous!) right at 12:00. Though we placed "maid" service request on the door, they never returned to make the bed or collect the wet robes from the pool. I would have much preferred a "turn-down" style service where they at least came in later in the afternoon or in the evening to tidy a bit. It would have been a much nicer "welcome back" from dinner...or even the afternoon, to have the bed made and cookies waiting.

I would highly recommend Madrona Manor. You will have a relaxing experience and feel you are taken back in time to a different period in beautiful surrounding. I look forward to returning!

The Inn was fine, nothing special. The breakfasts were good, but the rooms left a little to be desired for space and comfort. No views, unless you are sitting on the front porch of the main building. The grounds were well kept. Noisy airconditioner. And for the price- nothing special. I would check out other places if we ever return to the area.

We did not stay here, but had dinner here 1 night while in Healdsburg. This was supposed to be our 1 really romantic dinner of our trip. Overall, it was a terrible waste of money and major disappointment. The 1st bad sign was when I asked if they had wines by the glass, the waiter said 'yes' and walked away. He never returned with a wine list. He never asked if we wanted a cocktail. I ordered my lamb medium-well (I know fancy places like to serve it rare, but I don't care for it) and it came rare. I politely asked the server if this was medium (in case I was being too picky) and she said she didn't know as she didn't take the order! She didn't offer to do anything about it either. I politely and apologetically asked if they could cook it a little more. She took my plate and returned it later with a plop on the table and walked away. Our waiter never acknowledged this either. During this time other tables were getting served fresh rolls and refilled water glasses at every turn, not us. We asked for bread, and waited another 15 minutes for 1 roll. We only got 1 glass of water throughout all of dinner. The waiter never stopped by to ask if everything was OK, or if we needed anything else. And for dessert, the waiter recommended the ice cream as part of the prix fixe menu, but then there was a $7 surcharge on the bill he never mentioned. We also presented a 10% coupon from our Inn upon being seated, and he failed to subtract it from our bill, and had the nerve to ask if we had really given him a coupon when we pointed it out. We go to fine dining restaurants frequently, and for close to $200 I expect high quality service to match. Really tiny food portions. Overpriced, rude, poor service.

No matter where in the world you begin, a trip to northern California's Madrona Manor is well worth the effort. Infact, if it isn't already on your "must do" list, it should be.

Tucked away in the sunny valley of wine country, this luxurious Victorian mansion, coach house, gardens and recreational facilities (both on site and off) are outstandingly unique. As soon as you drive up the long stately driveway, you'll understand.

Each interior space is beautifully decorated with art, antiques or contemporary pieces and many host fresh floral arrangements of the season. Many of the rooms (both public and private) offer the chance to sit by a crackling fireplace or have easy access to verandahs, outdoor walks and seating areas.

After you arrive, take an afternoon stroll through the blood-orange tree grove and kitchen gardens where the scent of orange blossoms and herbs drift. As the sun begins to set, sit by a crackling fire and enjoy a drink before dinner in the lounge or after a dessert of homemade ice cream (the antithesis of flambe being made fresh at your table in a matter of seconds with the use of liquid nitrogen). Later, sleep with your windows open and listen to the soft sound of the wind in the redwood trees nearby. After a good night's rest, you will be refreshed and might enjoy a few laps in the pool before a leisurly breakfast that includes fresh hot coffee, homebaked pastries, juice and specialty egg dishes.

Of important note is a devoted group of very special people who staff the hideaway - every single person among whom are an outstanding Chef, Jesse Mallgren and an extraordinary Maitre d'Hotel, Joseph Bain.

Madrona Manor is an easy commute from San Francisco and at the hub of the wheel geographically, a home base of sorts, for exploring many different places such as the unspoiled parts of wine country such as Dry Creek Valley (great zins), Sebastopol (great antiquing), Petaluma (great shopping), Santa Rosa (the Charles M. Shultz museum), Bodega (film location for Hitchcock's "The Birds", Point Reyes (the village, lighthouse and ranches) or, slightly further north the town of Mendocino.

Our time at Madrona Manor was not long enough but it was so exceptional that our trip to Healdsburg and our stay at the Manor are now part of our annual vacation plans. We didn't really want to leave but at least we can go back to this special place.

We stayed at the Inn this past weekend as an escape from the stresses of wedding planning. Because of the season, I wondered if the grounds would be as beautiful as I'd hoped. We were not disappointed! The camelias, primroses & fuschias were in their glory. Holiday decorations created a magical ambiance both inside & out. We enjoyed our breakfast which did, as noted by a previous reviewer, center around lighter fare of assorted cheeses, cold meats, fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed juices and excellent baked items. We did have a wonderful hot fritatta, which was served with fresh & flavorful salsa. Staff was incredibly helpful & accomodating; our room was exquisite from the bedding to the bath products. We enjoyed the fireplace in our room in the main house thoroughly, and would have spent more time on the veranda had the weather been warmer. We enjoyed a winemaker dinner at the Inn, and the food was nothing short of fabulous! They have been awarded a Michelin star, and it is well-deserved. It may be pricey, but we felt it was worth every penny!

A glorious property. The gardens are spectacular - with its own vegetable garden.
Staff was welcoming and so helpful.
The rooms were a little outdated. The bed was comfy with great down comforters and the bathrooms had great products - and it had all the amenities - but felt a like it needed an update.
The breakfast included was lovely, BUT we splurged and had dinner at the restaurant. We did the wine pairing dinner. And it was incredible. The service was fantastic. The wines were amazing. The food was innovative, delicious and beautifully presented.
