“The Smell of Onions @ 6:30a.m. - awful!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

This hotel has been on our radar for years. We've read countless articles on how wonderful & charming it is so we finally booked a room. Upon check in, with confusion about the parking arrangements, some of the "charm" faded quickly. However, we quickly forgot about this & proceeded to enjoy the charming town which is well worth the trip. At 6:30a.m. The next morning, we were awakened by the awful odor of onions cooking! We were in room #6 on the second floor which is in close proximity to the "kitchen" where the staff prepares breakfast & an afternoon snack (Note: ALL of the rooms on the second floor are near the kitchen). It was so bad, I started gagging before leaving the bed. We quickly got dressed & walked out of the hotel. As we exited the hotel on the first floor, we noticed the onion odor was just as bad as upstairs. We then spent the next couple of hours wandering around town seeking a room for our final night in Healdsburg. Since this is August & their busiest season, it wasn't easy. We were delighted to secure a cottage @ Healdsburg Modern Cottages! They had a last minute cancellation - thank heavens! The thought of spending another night at the Healdsburg Inn was unbearable.
The icing on the cake was talking to the manager @ the Healdsburg Inn. A young woman with absolutely no customer service skills. I explained how sick I was & told her we had to leave. She said no one had complained before. So? She then said that the early check out fee was $100. However, she was going to reduce that to $50. I told her that in light of what happened, we weren't paying. She reluctantly took the charge off the bill. She didn't apologize for the situation or try to remedy it in any way. All for $400+ a night! Avoid this place!

Healdsburg Inn is top notch - well done and perfectly executed. It provides a perfect blend of a small, intimate inn with the understated elegance of a sophisticated boutique hotel. The location is perfect, and the amenities are lovely. It is now our go-to location in that part of the Sonoma wine valley.

We're so happy to have found the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza. The staff was courteous and helpful, the rooms comfortable and clean, and the breakfasts were probably better than any other in town. The location was ideal for visiting wineries, wine tasting and shopping. It was overall a fabulous experience! I highly recommend this boutique hotel. I can't imagine you'll find a better place to stay in beautiful Healdsburg.

Room Tip: It was ideal being close to the sunroom where breakfast, pastries and wine were served. I recommend...

My mom and I took a girls trip to Sonoma and decided to stay at the Healdsburg Inn. I was surprised to see it's not rated higher, as it's really a fantastic little place right on the main square and very walkable to restaurants, wine tasting rooms, and shops. I liked that it had the feel of a B&B but with the privacy and independence of a hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast changed daily and was very delicious while the wine hour offered different appetizers and nice wine. I really liked that there was also a plate of cookies, along w tea, and movies to check out. Great place to stay!

My wife and I recently returned from a stay in Healdsburg at the Healdsburg Inn. This small inn is in a perfect location on the main plaza. Step outside the front door and you are right in the middle of all the great small shops and restaurants in the area. The staff is friendly, professional and had some great suggestions for things to do in the area. We checked out on a Saturday and followed the suggestion of the young lady at the front desk to head over to the Farmer's Market and were so glad we did. We are from the "big city" and were very impressed with the sense of community amongst all of the vineyards and farmers who support each other. We have found our new anniversary weekend location and will be back every year! We love this place!

What a sweet little place this is!
Right on the main town square but quiet and stylish.
Staff are really great, cooperative and enthusiastic. Mckeena particularly!!
Rooms vary but it is worth asking for a first floor room,. Number 7 particularly, has a big bathroom with spa and an outside terrace. Fireplace too.

Room Tip: see note in the comments. No 7!

This was our first trip to wine country and we are very glad we chose to stay in Healdsburg at this property. First, the town of Healdsburg is wonderful, small and walkabout with many excellent restaurants, a cool grocery store (Oakville Grocery), boutiques and shops, a small park and plenty of tasting rooms. We loved that we could come back after a day of exploring, unwind at the wine happy hour and then walk to any number of terrific restaurants.
The property is RIGHT on the plaza so convenient to all of Healdsburg. Parking was extra but we were able to get a space and it was close to our room. We stayed in 2, downstairs, which was small but well appointed. I was worried about noise but never heard a thing. It was beastly hot when we were there (90s) and our room was very comfortable. Staff was great answering questions and provided extra hangers at a moments notice.
The breakfast was fine, nothing spectacular but one morning when we got up late, they were out of one dish. The person in the kitchen offered to make me waffles. No non-milk products so I had to avoid granola and got my coffee at Oakville. We hit the wine happy hour twice, met some nice people and enjoyed the drinks and snacks.
I would definitely recommend this place (and Healdsburg) as a great base for exploring Sonoma. We also visited the Gaige House in Glen Ellen and would consider staying there next time due to the pool.
