My husband and I recently ended our vacation at Hotel Les Mars in Healdsburg. Tucked away in a quiet corner of Healdsburg (Kendall-Jackson and La Crema tasting rooms and home to Chalk Hill), I would recommend Les Mars to anyone who wishes great service, exceptional rooms one would expect from a Relais & Chateaux property but without all of the frills of the larger Sonoma/Napa Valley Relais & Chateaux properties. In other words, this is a great place to relax and then head for outings in the wine country. Breakfast is included with a la carte options and is brought to your room. There is an adjacent connecting restaurant, Chalk Board, which I believe is affiliated with Chalk Hill, but is not open for breakfast. The breakfast pastries are delicious. Opening the floor to ceiling windows while having breakfast, makes for a very French feeling experience. The linens, bed, furniture and fireplace are all Versailles style. The bathroom is elegant and spa-style. We look forward to returning sometime in the future again! Thank you for your wonderful service and recommendations to the local winery. We really enjoyed visiting the Preston Organic Winery and Farm!

First of all, this is not a B and B. This is a 16 room boutique hotel in the Relais and Chateau family.
The location is superb, just a block and a half off the square near shops and restaurants. The architecture evokes images of France. For us it felt a little like Disney does France with $600/n modest rooms meant to be elegant but translating to not too comfortable.
The rooms are full of fake antiques, four poster beds too big for the scale of the room, bad lighting and not a comfortable place to sit. The rooms are furnished like bedrooms and not hotel rooms. The bed is very comfortable, the A/C works well and the bathroom is nice. The TV is hard to view through the bed posts, is too small anyway and the remote works only when it wants too.
The staff is very pleasant and very accommodating. But I don't get the feeling they have gotten any particular Relais and Chateau training. This could be any nicer hotel in any tourist town in America.

Les Mars is the third hotel for us on this trip. The room at Hotel Cheval in Paso Robles was much nicer and less expensive. The room at Ventana Inn and Spa at Big Sur while more expensive was much bigger and more comfortable. The seasoned serviced there should serve as a model for this place. I didn't mind spending nearly $1,000/n there, I got my money's worth. I'm not happy spending $600/n here. This should be a $300/n hotel, max.

Dear Guest,

We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback of your recent stay at Hotel Les Mars. Thank you for your comments on our service, as we take great pride in the attention that we are able to provide to our guests being such a small hotel and a member of Relais and Chateaux.

We are proud of our accommodations, given that they have canopied, hand-carved beds with Versai linens and gas fireplaces, along with all-marble bathrooms. The room you experienced was fastened with 18th Century, Italian NeoClassic chairs, and an early 20th Century Italian writing table, among other antiques.

At Les Mars, our desire is to ensure that each guest is well looked after. Had we been made aware that you felt uncomfortable in any way we would have done everything possible to make your stay more comfortable.

Our rates at Les Mars begin at $400.00 per night, but vary depending on the room category and most importantly the dates in which you will be staying. Since this reservation fell over the busy Memorial Weekend rates were impacted by the holiday weekend.

I thank you again for your comments, and for taking the time to express your recent stay at Les Mars. Please feel free to contact me either at the hotel (707-433-4211) or directly via e-mail (nabela@hotellesmars.com) at your convenience.

Kind regards,

Nicole Abela
General Manager

This was our first time in Healdsburg and to this property. We were very pleased with our time there. The property is beautiful, well located, quiet, and comfortable. We stayed in a large room on the third floor with a gas fireplace, large jetted tub, canopy bed, sitting area, etc. The room was comfortable and well appointed. If I had any criticism it would be that there is not any good place for reading as the lighting is not great next to the bed or near the chairs. The service was top notch in all respects. Everyone we dealt with was helpful, pleasant and knowledgable. A bottle of wine and a continental breakfast was included, and a nice wine and cheese event in the afternoon. The breakfast that was provided was delicious and we felt satisfied. Although it was not hearty enough for someone with a big appetite, for an additional charge there were heartier options available. As a same sex couple we felt welcome and comfortable. We would definitely stay there again and look forward to returning.

This hotel is hands down amazing! The staff goes the extra mile for their guests, lead by Ramon who is a great asset to this hotel. The hotel is a 1800 french themed hotel from the artwork to the bed frames. The wine and cheese at 6pm is a great way for guests to get together. This hotel is owned by the owner of Chalk Hill Wineries, go on the tour!!! We had such a nice time! The beds in the hotel make you not want to leave, the breakfast is wheeled in at your time of choosing. We had a huge bathroom with a nice walk in shower. We had the standard room with a fireplace which is the kicker!!!

I know some people say this hotel isn't worth 625 per night (but I have no idea what would be), I would agree with that statment, but it is more like 400 dollars a night.

Les Mars is a lovely small hotel. It is certainly a good choice for during the week in Jan. when the rates are substantially reduced, there are very few guests in the hotel, car gets parked right in front of hotel. At rack rates, I think it makes sense to consider several other good choices in Healdsburg. The Estate. King with fireplace, whirlpool tub, high ceilings is an excellent room. Location probably doesn't matter much b/c there is no view. There is construction on the side street but that should be over soon. I'd have some concern about second floor rooms facing front once the restaurant opens.

This place is over the top. They had the fireplace going in the room and music playing in the background. A beautiful canopied bed with the most comfortable bedding. Sheets like silk. This hotel is located right in the heart of downtown Healdsburg.

Ramon (I think he is the general manager) was very helpful with tips on wineries and restaurants. He made a reservation at "BarnDiva" for us. A great place within walking distance.

The hotel delivers a continental breakfast in the morning with fresh fruit and pastries.AND, even better, had Belgian chocolates on pillow at night. Jeez, what more can you want? We will go back!
