“Great lunch, and frog legs too!”
Reviewed April 15, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I had a great lunch at Willi's. The buffalo frog legs were spicy and meaty, the beet salad was huge and the lobster roll was the best we had outside of Maine, Great service and a wonderful vibe.

“Yummy”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

Went for lunch with two friends. The first dishes were so delightful that we ended up ordering more food than we needed. The small plates are not so small. However we did finish it all. The scallop dish was exceptional; the calamari scrumptious. Service was good and attentive without hovering. We sat in a booth which helped lessen the noise of happy eaters. We were able to talk comfortably. All of our selections were seafood so I had no direct experience with the other choices. However as we left I heard pounding which I learned was from the kitchen as they prepared the Wagyu beef dish. I almost turned around to order it. I am sure it was like butter. Next time.

“Wonderful small plates”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We were told that this was a nice place for small plates and the food was excellent. The 4 of us enjoyed a bottle of A Rafanelli Zinfandel, which is hard to come by, and tried the oysters, crab cakes, chicken and steak skewers, riblets, and the butterfish (amazing). All of the food was beautifully flavoured. There is obviously a chef here who knows what he or she is doing. I highly recommend this restaurant. The ambiance is nice, but still very casual. We really enjoyed ourselves.

“Good choice for late night eats”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Willi's is popular with locals, which is a good sign. We ate there on our last night in Healdsburg and I wish we had discovered it earlier. The menu is made up of small eats/tapas and has a wide variety of choices. We had an amazing tuna tartare - with coconut milk, jalapenos, cashew and ginger; one of the very best I have ever had. The flavors went together perfectly. Next was a clam flatbread which was equally innovative and delicious. Of course we had oysters too; they have a good selection. The only thing that didn't work was the kale salad with pine nuts; somehow the flavors just didn't gel together. The wait staff were polite and pleasant; and let me taste a few wines before selecting my "by the glass" choice. Decor is modern and chic, but also inviting with warm colors and attractive lighting. It can get a little loud when crowded, so not sure how intimate a dining experience it would be. We went on a Monday night and it was really hopping. The menu is quite adventurous when it comes to flavor combinations; great for us but perhaps not for the more conventional eater. Vegetarian options are a bit limited, but they are always wiling to modify menu items for dietary restrictions. Would like to go back and try about a dozen other things on the menu. So many good dishes, so little time ....

“Scallop dreams for days!”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

If Willi's would have had beds, we would have checked in and stayed for a week! Their tapas and small plate menu is second to none, and it's hard to select only one or two to highlight because we truly enjoyed each remarkable dish that was clearly chef-prepared to perfection! The asparagus was unbelieveable, the crab cake was better than anything we've ever had, and the scallops were in our dreams for days after our visit. The clams and calamari were fresh and enviable from neighboring tables, and we complimented it all with a 2010 Copain chardonnay. You will truly enjoy everything from the service to the atmosphere and everything in between. The outdoor dining space was relaxed and delicious (and not encumbered by street noise at all!) The wait staff was knowledgeable and open to make suggestions, and although we were ful, the four of us finished the night off with they unique peparation of key lime pie (prepared in a mason jar with two graham cracker/bacon cookies to dip and drool over!) Well worth the price, it's an experience you'll take back home after a wonderful vacation!
