The tapas style dishes were just the right portions for our post thanksgiving dinner. We shared different dishes and thoroughly enjoyed the taste of each. The warm octopus salad was a great start to our tasting experience and the quail was awesome. No wine or dessert for us this time but we plan to include both the next time we visit Healdsburg.
The service complimented the food which was excellent. U

Healdsburg has a number of nice restaurants, and Chalkboard has taken the space formerly occupied by one of the better known, Cyrus. We were in the area for the Thanksgiving weekend and had heard that Chaklboard was a 'must' so we made a reservation for the night after Thanksgiving. To start off with the most negative point, our table was in a rather packed section so it was not well set for initimate conversation, and the noise level was bit high.

Now to the important point: the food. There was a number of tasty sounding options, all small plates, on the menu so we had to narrow down the choices to a manageable 4. We started off with the Pumpkin Soup shooters, which came with a deep fried risotto ball. The soup was very good, and the risotto ball good enough once we gave it time to cool off to eating temperature. Next up were the Dungeness Crab Tater Tots. The Tater Tot portion were a great homage to a decadent item of my youth, the crab was great but the serving a bit small; it would have been much better with just slightly more of the crab mixture on top. The third dish was the star, Smoked Mushrooms which came with a pecorino sformato. Outstanding in a word, very flavorful and leaving me wanting more. Then onto a Warm Octopus salad which was very good, with the octopus cooked enough but not too much and with a dressing that complemented it well. Our last plate was the Red Wine Braised Short Rib which was well cooked with a tasty braising sauce.

Then onto dessert, which was our Waterloo. We tried two, starting with the Pumpkin Spice Donuts, a trio of small cake type donuts dipped in a dark Mexican chocolate. That was a very good dessert and was probably sufficient, but we had also ordered the Candy Bar, a brownie, caramel, nougat bar served with a small tower of mousse and a small scoop of ice cream. Outstanding, and enough to give us a complete sugar rush. Addicting.

Service was great, almost to the point of too much but not quite. Our waitress seemed to appear out of nowhere at just the right time. The almost-stealth arrival may be in part due to the close spacing of tables and noise, but she was very helpful and attentive. Overall another place we will try to visit on our regular trips to Healdsburg.

Amazing dinner and drinks with family. The shot of pumpkin soup was amazing and the short ribs were spectacular. Also the pretzels were awesome, you must try them. I got the "wish you were here" cocktail and it was delicious. The only thing I didn't love was we made a reservation for our anniversary and they didn't do anything for it. But otherwise we had great service and loved our dinner.

We had a late lunch and walked away with a memorable meal. The portions are on the smaller side; but everything we ate was delicious. The salads, pasta, veggie dishes, sliders, bread, and wine were all remarkable. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful with the menu and wine list. We highly recommend this restaurant to treat your palate and challenge your food preferences.

This is a great place to enjoy trying a variety of foods. There were four of us and plenty of food was served. You must have the sliders!! The biscuits with the pork belly is pretty darn good as well! I recommend this place and can't wait to go back and try more items.
