Two of us ate at Madrona Manor last night. One of the best meals I've had, anywhere.
The service was polished - friendly, attentive, knowledgeable (especially about the wine - the wine pairings are heartily recommended), but not overbearing. The food was divine. At first we though the portions might be a little on the small side, but as we savored each mouthful, we realized that the balance between quantities and courses was near perfect. (And the amuses bouche and palate cleansers were wonderful, too.)
The highlight for us in a meal of wonderful moments was probably the cheese course: 8 superb cheeses sourced locally and world-wide, presented with a knowledgeable, witty banter (and we're not great on banter, so this was a pleasant surprise). Novel, but effective presentation - the chevre was warmed before us to bring out the flavor - and a portion of the unwarmed version provided for comparison. Yup - it works. With dates and grapes. Divine.
The liquid-nitrogen-chilled ice cream was quite a show, and fairly tasty, too. But we still went back to those cheeses when we discussed the meal. And the Oh-Toro Tuna "Crudo" with estate beets. And the Vidalia Onion Velouté with banyuls vinegar, 63ºC egg (itself a small wonder), and Parmigiano-Reggiano froth; and the ... but you get the idea. We polished every plate. $315 for two, including wine and tip.
