“Authentic and Unique”
Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

Agave Restaurant and Tequila Bar is located in a Healdsburg shopping center a couple of blocks off the historic and shi-shi plaza. Unlike so many, owner Octavio Dias has made great efforts to create an inviting and very clean dining experience. Using only the freshest ingredients Senor Dias, who does the cooking, recreates both familiar and many new dishes from his native Mexico. The plates come out hot and steaming with sizzle and the aromas one would hope for. The Carnitas and Mole are especially flavorful. Probably will become a weekly outing. The Margarita's and beer on tap complete this excellent package.

“Yum! Good Mexican in Wine Country”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

After a week in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, I was a bit burned out on Italian, seafood, and brewery options for dinner. I was happy to a well reviewed Mexican restaurant pop up just a few minutes from my hotel. Yes, the restaurant is in a strip mall, but once in the doors you will neither notice nor care. The margaritas were delicious and they had a decent selection of beer on tap. We had a hard time deciding what to eat because the menu had so many good options but ultimately settled with things from the Traditional Entrees section, eschewing the burritos and tacos for options that would hopefully give the kitchen a chance to stand out. Our food was very good, filling enough, and, perhaps most importantly, not more of the same that we had been eating the whole trip.

“Wonderful Mexican Restaurant”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

Found this place after returning on a Sunday from wine tasting in Sonoma county. We enjoyed the casual "vibe" and our waitress Amparo was wonderful. We spoke both Spanish and English and we all understood each other. I mistakenly ordered the chili verde versus the chili verde burrito, and the CV was the best that I had eaten in a long time. The mole de qaxaca was different and not what we had expected from other Mexican restaurants. The carnita chimichanga was great as were the tres tacos de lengua (tongue).

We didn't take part in the tequilla bar, but found the Mexican artifacts, art along with the color and motif just splendid. We will put this on our list to visit when we return with other friends on our wine tasting jaunts.

“Solid choice, but nothing special”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

We thought this was a solid choice, but not anything special. I had the chicken mole and my SO had the pork carnitos taco combination plate. The mole was better than the carnitos. The rice and beans were good--better than average.

But this wasn't the full restaurant experience I'm looking for on a vacation. The restaurant lacks ambience and looks about like what you'd expect a restaurant in a strip mall to look like. Also, our server just disappeared at the end of our meal and we sat there for a while with the remains of our meal, wishing she'd show up again so we could ask for our check. While the food was good, it wasn't good enough to make up for these other lackings.

“Great Mexican food in a wholesome local environment.”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Agave was a very pleasant experience with very good food, the freshest ingredients, bright and clean surroundings and friendly and attentive staff. This will become a regular and recurring dinner (or lunch) location for us. The Tequila bar is extensive as you might expect from this popular restaurant's name. High quality and very authentic. Enjoy!. Located at 1063 Vine Street, Healdsburg, CA.
