Great wines, lovely atmosphere, able to schedule tours and also has a horse (riding) ranch on the property. One of our best wine club destinations. Great service and talks with Jonathan.

This winery estate is on 1500 acres of rolling hills with 250 acres in vines. The owners live on the estate which includes an Olympic quality equestrian facility, and two organic vegetable gardens. Produce from these gardens is used at the new Chakboard restaurant at the Les Mars hotel in Healdsburg.

We chose the wine and food pairing which included a tour of the beautiful property, a chat with the manager of the vegetable gardens, and a four plate lunch, each course paired with a different wine, and prepared by Didier, executive chef. Each course was exquisite in both preparation, presentation and flavor. A grilled zucchini, roasted red pepper and goat cheese terrine was accompanied by the estate Viognier. The second plate was king salmon with baby leeks, cauliflower purée and Argo dulce paired with the estate Chardonnay. The third plate was szechuan pepper crusted duck breast, braised leg FILO, roasted mango and nectarine with a huckleberry sangria sauce and paired with the estate red wine. Fourth was a strawberry & rhubarb creme legere paired with a botrytised, sweet, semillon.

The meal was served at the equestrian center dining room. This was a perfect example of how a wine might be just OK by itself but improves and takes on a completely differently personality when paired with the right food.

The tour of this beautiful property, the chats with the gardener and chef Didier, and of course the food and wine were a perfect experience in wine country.

What a fantastic time we had here. We had a wonderful sampling of their wines, which were elegant and very well-balanced. The property is stunning and majestic setting, which is why people get married here and even propose (as we saw happen). We went on a tour of the grounds and just amazed by how vast and well cared for things were. The staff was great and an excellent representation for Chalk Hill, Jonathan was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating for our group. What should have been a 1 hour visit, turned into nearly 3.

This is a wonderful stop if you like the Chalk Hill wines (as I do). The sprawling estate is up in the mountains and quite out of the way and off the beaten path. If you want to escape the weekend crowds in Napa Valley - drive up to Chalk Hill. It is quite the interesting tour and history on how Foley continues to transform this wonderful winery. I am docking them a star because it is difficult to find - they can use a few signs along this country road to let visitors know where it is located. Take the time and take a wonderful drive through the country and visit Chalk Hil!
