“Upgrade to "Scentiments" Private Tasting - You Won't Regret It”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2010

Kudos to Philippe Gresset, Educational/Hospitality Associate, for making our Scentiments Private Tasting our most memorable event of our 5 day Napa/Sonoma trip. He is by far the most knowledgeable wine expert I have ever encountered, but is in no way a wine-snob.

After a group tour of the winery and flower gardens, and seeing an actual cork oak tree, we met Mr Gresset and moved to a private tasting room prepared with 5 different types of wines and a wide array of aroma samples: lemons, peaches, kiwi, appricots, pepper, etc.- probably 25 in all. We were taught the proper way to sample wines and as we sampled, he would not tell us which aromas or tastes we would encounter until after we wrote them on a card. It's quite wonderful to actually pull out a black cherry or peach aroma from a wine.

This went on for around two hours - and all for only $35 - a huge bargain compared to many wine country tasting rooms.. This learning opportunity is a must for any new or intermediate wine drinker - I know I'll do it again the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

“Too bad the host was awful”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2009

Good wine, awful customer service. So it started with plans to tour the best of Napa and Sonoma's wineries. Included on our list was Ferrari-Carano. We called and made a reservation for 8 people, albeit with much resistance from the staff. They felt that it should be more private, but this was a close group of family and friends and none of the other wineries had an issue with our number. We were doing a special wine tasting -- the Prevail wines -- a tasting that cost $35 per person. We found out two weeks ahead of time that we were actually going to have 9 people. We e-mailed and called, but the staff was very reluctant to allow 9 people. They said "Once you see the room, you'll understand." All we were asking for was a chance to make it work. Upon our arrival, the tour host was adamant that 9 was too many. BUT she did say that her coworker was going to be accompanying us!!! (We were all too shocked -- our friends couldn't come, but her coworker was going to come... this room must be toooo tiny and it would have been excessively uncomfortable to have 9 people....) We asked her if we could just TRY to see if it would work. So we start out with a picture opportunity in front of some staged barrels with all 9 of our party. She started out the tour in a huff and was rude when we asked some questions. When we left the staged picture opportunity, she pretty much kicked out two members of our party. They were locals, and were willing to step aside and let us East Coasters have the tour, but they had never been there before either!! And she had the GALL to say "I feel so bad, I kicked out some of your party." She should have felt bad, especially when we arrive at the room, which had 7 cushioned chairs oriented at a TV, but then 7 MORE chairs around a table. IN THE SAME ROOM!!! Plenty of room for 9 people! We then sit there for 20 minutes while she shows us still pictures on the TV and tells us about how they have goats on the vineyards. Exceptionally boring and excessively scripted. We then move 2 feet to a table to start tasting the wine. No doubt about it -- the wine was exceptional. The tasting was enjoyable. We even joined the wine club (shows how much we loved the wine, that we showed enough self-restraint to not blame the winery for her behavior). The wine is great, but we had major issues with the customer service. The location was beautiful, the tasting room beautiful, but the experience was marred by the fact that the host refused to go the extra mile to make sure that our experience was enjoyable. And she kept saying, "you'll see how the room is so small "and "I feel so bad." Some people don't realize that it's not saying you're sorry, it's doing something about it. Guess I should have asked to speak to her manager right away.

“Our Favorite Winery in the Wine Country!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2009

We almost missed this place for lack of time but decided to squeeze it in on this past Sat. morning before checking out of the Inn @ the Plaza in Healdsburg. Wanda, the concierge at the Inn strongly suggested we visit this place and gave us complimentary tasting passes. It's a beautiful drive to the winery, we arrived a little after 10:00 am, a little early for wine tasting but we did have a substantial breakfast at the Inn that morning.

We drove up and the property was just truly gorgeous with little private gardens, stunning views and there lots of lavender tulips in bloom which were beautiful. Once inside the winery, the tasting room is very spacious and grand and you have beautiful views of the vineyards, pool and grounds from the tasting bar. We sampled some very nice wines and our server was so helpful and did suggest purchasing the wines at Costco except for the two whites, Pinot Grigio and a dessert wine which we purchased at the winery.

I loved the effervesence that was in the white wines here, giving them a little bit of "kick." We truly enjoyed our time at this beautiful winery and hope to return again to do the Reserve tasting sometime. We found a new love! :)

“beautiful grounds...good wine...rude service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2008

We chose the cellar service, while the wines were good, the people behind the counter were unattentive and disagreeable. When discussing the wines the guys behind the counter came off as arrogant and condescending. While I am no Robert Parker, I also have a good wine palate.
