We've been to many wineries in Sonoma/Napa and elsewhere but this was by far our favorite. We were already fans of their wines, and after tasting some of their varietals that we had not had before, we are now even bigger fans. The wine bar/ gift shop upstairs is one of the nicest we visited this trip, very bright and stocked with all kinds of wine gifts. The best wine tasting room is the one downstairs, which serves their reserve wines. While the upstairs tasting area is a drink at the bar kind of place, downstairs you sit at a table while they serve you so you can linger and relax a bit. The tour, offered only at 10am, is free and very informative. It takes you through the incredible gardens--as an amateur gardener, I was awed by the creativity and beauty of this place, they use over 2000 plant species--and through the wine making facilities. Can't recall our guide's name, but there was not a question asked that she couldn't answer. Learned a lot of interesting things about producing wine, giving us a greater appreciation while consuming it now. Even the pourers knew what they were talking about, and if they feel like you are really interested, they have a few bottles not on the official lists that they might pour for you. Tasting fee is a nominal $5/pp, or 10 for the reserve wines. FC is a bit out of the way but the trip is worth it.
