Description: Phone number 310-679-5161. Owners are Rodolfo Garcia and Juan Manuel Garcia. Restaurant offers excellent home-style Mexican food. Impressively friendly owners and staff. Although small, very clean and comfortable surroundings. Generous portions of everything, including the wine. Priced almost too reasonably for the level of food and service excellence. This is the kind of restaurant we will go out of our way to visit any time we are in Los Angeles.

“Good Food & Excellent Service & Affordable”
Reviewed February 19, 2014

Zacatecas

This is a very small restaurant with a local Mexican-American decor. It is a very casual atmosphere. The service was EXCELLENT and the food proportions were large. [photos included with this post]

This is not the usual type of Mexican restaurant I would choose to eat in (looks too hole-in-the-wall for me but it was recommended and not very far from our hotel. The food is slightly more greasy than I am use too but not as much so as you find at a lot of these types of establishments.

We had the Chile Rellenos ($8.45) and the Stuffed Zucchini ($10.25). They have seafood items as well. There is also domestic as well as imported beers ($3.00 & $3.50) in addition to Margaritas and Wine. We very much enjoyed both meals but our favorite was the Stuffed Zucchini.

The Chile Rellenos was the kind where you really taste the chile (not too spicy) and cheese and not at all heavy on the egg batter (how a Chile Rellenos should be). We don’t like the kind that taste more like an omelet. The sauce was a little different than we are use to but it was good - more like an enchilada sauce.

The Stuffed Zucchini is stuffed with ground beef and topped with ranchera sauce and melted cheese. It was so very tasty!

You get complementary chips and salsa. The salsa was a bit too spicy for my taste. And there was complementary flan at the end of our meal - they gave us a big slice to share between us. The flan is the best I have ever had - it is thick and creamy.

We came late on a Friday night and there were three musicians wondering the floor playing some very enjoyable Mexican music on their base, accordion and guitar.

We will definitely return when we find ourselves in the area. Or maybe we will make the trip from San Diego to Los Angeles just for the food at Zacatecas (seriously).

“IT'S NOT IN OUR CULTURE TO............................”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

queue up for food. American's are so very patient, and don't seem to mind in the least, not so for us. Waiting around on the street in the cold, is not very inviting. However, because the restaurant had great reviews, and there were a group of 4, plus a couple waiting we decided to bite the bullet. We waited 15 - 20 minutes. When we were seated we were very impressed by the friendliness of staff, one could not fault them.
The décor is not special, so it really wouldn't be my first choice for a romantic dinner.
We asked for a wine and a margarita, prior to perusing the menu, we just wanted to relax for 5-10 minutes. The drinks came smartly, and a very generous glass of wine too.t. We were not hassled to order, the waiter respected our request to be left to sip our drinks.
I ordered the shrimp fajita and hubby had #15 (unable to remember it's name, beef something) Regrettably, I did not get what I ordered but decided not to make an issue of it, because what I did get, was my second choice anyway.
In all due respect to other reviews, the food was average to good, certainly not exceptionable. The lovely staff made up for any flavour misgivings, however.
The complimentary flan, was a nice touch.
If we owned this restaurant, we would be buying the next attached shop, and turning it into a cosy bar where patrons could wait to be seated, rather than standing around outside.

“GOOD LOCAL JOINT”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

This family run restaurant has the most friendly and enthusiastic waiters you will find anywhere in addition to the very reasonable priced food. The food is very good in general but I have tasted better Mexican food for my taste. But everyone has a different opinion. We had a good time and it was worth a stop there for dinner in the neighborhood.
