This hotel is totally worth it. The rooms are large and clean. There is a small kitchen where you can find sink, microwave and refrigerator.

The hotel offers free secure parking lot, free continental breakfast and free wifi.

If you have car, the hotel is an excellent option to stay. I recommend staying at this hotel. About 30 minutes to Universal and Warner Bros by car.

We stayed in Holiday Inn Express Hawthorne for 3 nights during out trip to LA (as part of Priceline holiday package). I would say this place is a great value for $. Complementary Breakfast for good and rich, Rooms were pretty spacious. Great location in the middle of city with easy access to key landmarks, stores like Target, Subway. Staff was courteous.

The minuses
Found it bit difficult to locate at night (guess the light on main signboard was temporarily mal-functioning)
Dint like the carpet, looked old and stained

Overall a big Thumbs Up.

Stayed in a very nice room. The room had a very nice bathroom, a small kitchenette, table, and sofa. Very impressed with the room. The breakfast was good quality and quality. Only about 10-15 minutes to LAX. The secure parking garage was very nice. Also has free wi-fi. I would stay again here.

Got a decent rate through Priceline and given a room on the first floor. Room was clean and comfortable - no disturbing stains or smelly carpet. The hotel is conveniently close to the airport (driving distance) and there are fast food options in the area for late-night snacking.

Parking is free in the 3-story parking structure next to the hotel. The garage is gated with a keycode entry pad which is a nice touch but also indicative of the neighborhood. Hotel staff is friendly enough - no issues at check-in or checkout and took all of 2 minutes for each. Breakfast is standard Holiday Inn Express-style, with pancakes, eggs, sausage links, assorted bread, yogurt, and cereal. No issues with breakfast except for the fact that the hotel staff stop breakfast exactly at 9:30am - I've never seen staff clean up so fast.

Pros: Clean, well-decorated rooms with tall ceilings on the first floor, bright bathrooms, decent TV channel selection, free parking. Microwave and Fridge in the room!

Cons:
1) WiFi is slow in morning and night with maximum speed of approx. 120 kilobytes/second (about 2x the speed of dial-up). Remember back in the AOL era where you'd have to take a mini-nap waiting for something to load? Welcome back AOL. If you wanted to watch a 1-minute youtube video, you'd need to let the browser load the video for about 1.5-2minutes. If you have AT&T on your phone and want to browse on your phone, you are also out of luck as signal strength is abysmal in this area of the city (expect 1-2 bars of 3G/LTE service).
2) The stream of water coming out of the showerhead is pitiful and barely a "shower", more like a drizzle or a heavy mist. I don't know if it's just a method to help conserve water but it's not going to work if people have to shower twice as long just to rinse soap off. Also, the showerhead does not articulate well so if you're 5-foot tall or less, you're gonna have a hard time directing that showerhead at your back.

I would rate this hotel 3 stars but due to the gated parking garage, I bumped it up a star. If I was here for business, I would be very disappointed with the WiFi and would have to find an alternate place to stay. Come on HIExpress, in this day and age, minimum speed should be at least 300kb/s!

Room Tip: If you book prepaid (Priceline, Hotwire, etc) and get a first-floor room, don't stress, the rooms are still quiet and clean. If you need a stronger cellphone signal though, try asking for a higher-floor room (it might help a little).

I love the Holiday Inn chain and was not dissappointed with this property. The staff was pleasent, funny and very helpful! I got a great nights sleep, even able to sleep in a bit and stroll downstairs for the complimentary breakfast. Staff was great!
