Americas Best Value Inn & Suites
Ranked #6 of 8 Hotels in Half Moon Bay
Reviewed October 23, 2005

Half Moon Bay was on our route to Carmel. Our room in Carmel was booked 2 months before we decided going to the Pumpkin Festival. Not knowing anythig about the area and afraid we could not get a room, booked the first thing with in our most expensive price range. Was a bit pricey, but we can not complain about anything, except the $180 night rate and were told we could stay next night for $69. Will stay there again if the rate is within our budget. The manager and his wife were very nice and very helpful. The property was very clean and well maintained. Lighting was excellent in the room and around the property. Excellent location. The complimentary breakfast was excellent, bagels & cream cheese, wonderful waffles(no thirty minute line during pumpkin festival), boiled eggs and fruit. Coffee, cream, cereal, what more can you ask for complimentery?

I know everything is pricey in the area but I really don't think it was a great deal.

The most important thing to me is a good nights sleep and we definitely did not get that. Very uncomfortable beds, thin walls. We were next to a honeymoon couple and my 10 year old daughter thought she was experiencing a California earthquake... don't think I need to explain more. This went on for most of the night in addition to having many loud partying friends arrive later.

The breakfast really was missing a lot. It was advertised as having fruit, eggs, and muffins. All they had both mornings were the waffles, old bread, and cereal with whole milk. The breakfast room is really tiny and awkward getting anything. There was a line for the waffles for over 30 minutes.

The only good thing is the location- there are many beautiful beaches nearby, so that was nice.

Stayed here in November. The room was fine - large and well-maintained. Continental breakfast was good compared to others in the price range. Bathroom was particularly good. Best thing about it was the super-friendly and helpful desk clerk, who really went out of her way to make a weary lone traveller feel welcome. Also gave me good tips on my short stay in the area. The only minus is that the motel is on a very busy highway (though I didn't hear it from my room), and it can be quite tricky to get on and off the premises (especially if you are a timid Brit in a rental car!).

This motel looks new through and through, and it has quite a bountiful continental breakfast (e.g. hard-boiled eggs, waffles, bagels, cereal, juice, milk, and coffee). The room we stayed in was spacious, very clean, and even included a coffeemaker, fridge, and microwave. Unfortunately, the motel doesn't have any pool or spa, and it's location between busy Cabrillo Hwy. and a residential neighborhood doesn't exactly make for much solitude as the other reviewer noted. While not really close to town, it is only like 1/4 mile from the beach, and a couple of restaurants are within walking distance. I would probably give the motel a better rating if the lodging price was not quite so high because overall its quality seems pretty solid.

We stayed in the suite with a king size bed. The mattress was not at all comfortable. The other thing that we did not enjoy was the noise level from traffic on the highway since the hotel is right on the Cabrillo Highway.
