Zaballa House
Ranked #10 of 11 Half Moon Bay B&B and Inns
Reviewed February 4, 2007

we initially booked one of the cheaper room downstairs... next to the dining room, but the heater was broken. Our initial room downstairs was not that nice, it was older and a bit dingy. The house management upgraded us to a room upstairs (second door on the left) and that room was MUCH better than the downstairs room. There was more light and the room was cleaner and more up to date. We really enjoyed the upstairs room and give it four stars, but the downstairs room was not worth the price. The breakfast was good and the staff was really nice. I woud have given this house a neutral to two star rating if we had stayed in the downstairs room.

A nice old villa, not many rooms, great atmosphere. We stayed there 1 night, room and bathroom were absolutely clean. Hlaf Moon Bay is a small town of arts, very nice location, near the beach. From Zaballa it was 15-20 minutes to walk to the beach. Breakfast was continental with warm quiche which was very good, there's only one huge table, so conversation is guaranteed. No TV, not necessary here. Very nice staff.

The Zaballa house was great. We stayed in the Zaballa House for two days without having a reservation. We wanted a tv and stayed the first night in their newer rooms (not recommended) the room was loud and you could hear the room next to us. The next night the staff was more then accomidating and moved us to a wunderful room in the main house. No TV but it did have a hottub. Very friendly and accomidating.

It's a place with a bit of "character" but don't do late check-in....key was left in box only to have random couple take key and enter our room...we got everything settled and the managment was accomidating in the morning. We wouldn't rush back...stained sheets, hair in spa tub, and dusty room makes us cringe!

The Zaballa House, is not only a house but a motel-style addition to one side above some shops with essentially generic Motel 6-like decor and paper-thin walls. We could easily hear the folks next door talking in normal voices and the TV. Our room overlooked a parking lot. We were gravely disappointed.

The lobby in the house, where one might normally congregate with other guests to get some semblance of the B & B experience is tiny and uncomfortable and the wine and cheese reception leaves a lot to be desired, a warm $5 bottle of Chardonnay, some slices of cheddar made us feel like they could have tried a little harder. We didn't expect the Ritz, but for the money and the description, we expected more than just a roof over our heads.

I loved the cozy rooms and hot tub!!!!!!!! I've stayed at the Zaballa House a few times a year and never had any problems with service. I enjoyed the complementary wine and cheese as well as the spacious rooms. I also enjoyed the conveinence for the Pumkin Festival. I highly recommend the Zaballa House to everyone!!!!!!
