“OK for the right coast, but verpriced”
Reviewed October 26, 2012 via mobile

Had really wanted to try the best lobster roll in the area but disappointed by so so service and average tasting food. The NE clam chowder was tasty bit could have used more clAms and fewer potatoes. The fish & chips were average with hard fries. The lobster roll was loaded with lobster but lacked enough mayo. We've had better in Canada & New England.

“Lovely lobster roll and clam chowder”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

Title says it all: get there for happy hour and sit at the bar side for half price cocktails. Lovely views across the bay and extensive menu.

“Enjoy The Lobster With A View!!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We planned to stop here driving up Highway 1 on way to San Francisco and we're so glad we did.
We were seated quickly and were soon tucking into one of Sam's famouse lobster sandwiches.
The roll was filled with plenty of lobster and was accompanied with coleslaw and crisps and was tasty and well worth the money.
As it was a nice day we were sat outside and had a lovely view of Half Moon Bay.
Service was attentive and the food was good, well worth popping into Sam's Chowder House!!

Reviewed October 24, 2012

1/2 the time I would give it 4 stars and 1/2 the time I would give it 2.5 stars...food is good but not for the price, service is hot or miss, but the view is always great and it is a very nice drive on hwy 1 from SF and 280/92 from San Jose :)

“Tourist trap”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

We have driven past this restaurant many times and it is always packed. We had lunch here on a whim. We were seated quickly at a table with a nice view. Service was very good. The lunch menu was a bit pricey, with a limited fish menu. Our party selected the dungeness crab louie entree salad.
Basically, this is a bowl of salad swimming in mayonaise with a small portion of crab and some Fiji apple slices. The crab was fresh, though the dressing was a bit over powering. One person in our group demanded more crab for the $17. The manager did bring more.
The salad was unimaginative and not all that tasty. Perhaps other items are better, but there are other restaurants in the area, I don't think we will be back.
