“Best Sushi in SF Bay Area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

This friendly establishment features a rare combination of top drawer sushi/sashimi with absolutely zero pretentiousness. This is some of the best raw food I have ever sampled, and other dishes like fried soft shell crabs are fantastic. One formula for a perfect Saturday afternoon: 1) Take a long walk on Poplar Street Beach (after making your way through the laughably difficult parking payment machine). Dress warmly--it's Half Moon Bay remember--and then 2) when you're thoroughly wind blown and ready for a great meal, jump into your car and take the short trip to Sushi Main Street. The two times we've visited we've eaten in the "lounge" and enjoyed the over-the-top sea and sand decor--chairs made of driftwood, table tops seemingly carved out of undersea rock--it's fascinating. OK, the service might have been a little faster, but once we remembered to abide by the slightly slower pace of HMB vs. SF Peninsula, we were fine. In an earlier visit we sat right at the bar and watched the sushi chef at work and his obvious pride in what he did immediately won us over. This earns an unqualified top recommendation. If this place were over the hill in Menlo Park it'd be mobbed from afternoon to late night.

“Good sushi, good place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

Love the decor and the food. Location in Half Moon Bay is very pleasant and convenient for a stroll around town at any time of day or night. They've been a fixture of the coastal restaurant scene forever.

“Fresh wonderful sushi!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Ok, this is the place to stop if your a sushi lover and find yourself driving down the coast in HMB. I would suggest going at lunch time, real value compared to the evening prices. The California rolls are fabulous. My kids ordered the combo bento box, which was prefect and a great value at lunch time.

“Unexpected Japanese in idiosyncratic atmosphere.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013 via mobile

Very nice place to stop for lunch.

We were on our way to Santa Cruz through Half Moon Bay where we decided to stop for lunch. We went to Sushi Main Street attracted by the idiosyncratic decor, which creates a cozy ambience (Pueblo counters and fixed seating meet the Flintstones's stone tables meet wooden Indian carved panels meet Dogon granary door and many other details). We asked for the special Bento Box. Mine included Tempura Shrimp, Grilled White Fish and two pieces of Sushi complemented with salad and as a dessert a ball of Green ice-cream. We also had two glasses of White Half Moon Bay wine. The whole culinary experience was very good and reasonably priced. Attractive place on Main Street!

“Cool Lounge Decor and Good Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

My husband and I happened upon this restaurant on Fourth of July. We got stuck behind a parade, saw the sushi place and jumped at the chance to get some good sushi before the crowds took over!

There is a lounge and an actual restaurant next door. The restaurant was closed, but the lounge was open for lunch. The decor was beautiful. Looked like all hand crafted woods and stones. The chairs were made from wood also. Service was ok. Food took way too long to get to us given 1) they weren't that busy (yet) and 2) it's raw...nothing to cook! All in all, the food was good. Best sushi ever.....??? No. But a nice place to stop in.
