“60+ Ft Waves at Famous Surf Spot 1-2 Months out of YEAR”
Reviewed April 14, 2012

World Famous Mavericks Surf Spot.
The annual Mavericks Surf Contest regularly host 50-60 foot waves and draws 100,000’s of people each year to Pillar Point Harbor Village. It has recently manifested itself into the beginnings of a worldwide surf culture phenomenon as a few world famous big wave surfers have recently lost their life while attempting to surf the wave during peak heights.
In one of the first efforts ever to quantify the worth of a wave, a group of academics, surfers and environmentalists have put a price of $24 Million Dollars on the Mavericks Wave Break.

“A little dirty”
Reviewed March 2, 2012

Not as clean as we would have expected. Looks like hard pieces of tar along the beach.

“Not a good place to surf unless you're a pro big wave surfer”
Reviewed February 29, 2012

When the annual big wave contest is on the best place to watch is on a t.v. viewing the live web cam video. Don't try to go to the beach or hillside above. too far from the action to see anything.

“Beautiful Walk To The Beach”
Reviewed February 18, 2012

My son and I went to Mavericks hoping to see big waves. Between November and March waves can get up to 50 feet. We didn't get to see big waves, but we did have a nice outing. The parking lot does fill up quickly and parking on the street is prohibited, but we got lucky and popped into a great spot in the small lot. Once parked it is a bit of a walk to the beach, but the walk is flat and the sights are beautiful. When we got to the beach, it was low tide so the tide pools were very accessible and there was a lot to see (my son loved this part). There were a lot of families checking out the tide pools, but it wasn't too crowded. I was a little disappointed I didn't get to see the waves, but my son probably enjoyed it much more than the waves (it can be very scary and dangerous when they are really big...sightseers have been caught by rogue waves). It was defintely a fun outing.
