Owner description: Popular beach in Half Moon Bay that is known for superb big-wave surfing.

One of my favorite beaches in HMB, it's normally popular with people walking their dogs, so expect to see lots of dogs. The walk to the beach by the harbor is nice as its quite calm, then you go round the corner to Mavericks and the waves can be crazy, so watch you don't get caught by a freak wave. Ive never been to the actual Mavericks contest, and would personally avoid the area then as I imagine it is crazy. I have seen a few surfers here though enjoying the waves

When the waves are big, it will take your breath away to think of the courage and skill of the surfers.

Went by the Mavericks. The surf only breaks for a few months, so things were pretty flat in the water.

Still it was neat to see actually where all of those waves would be in the winter months.

If you are a big wave surf fan or surf movie fan ( think "Riding Giants ) then you gotta make the trek out to Mavericks located outside of Princeton By The Sea area just west of the Air Force Radar Installation visible throughout the harbor..make yor way to Jeff Clarks Mavericks Surf Shop for directions or just take a right past his shop and take the narrow road out to the tiny parking area just left before entering Air Force property.. usually full but someone always seems to be leaving so you should get lucky. About 1/3 mile walk down beach trail to the point and thenhug the cliff to the right as far as you can go for this view of the rocks at the break
