This is a hide-away along the coast at Half Moon Bay that we take our guests to for sunset one evening during their visit. We order drinks and appetizers and watch the sun go down while a bagpipe plays. They have warm fire pits you can sit at. But here is the KEY POINT. NEVER GO ON A HOLIDAY OR WEEKEND. Weekend valet parking is $30. Week night parking is $10. Weekend seating is restricted and seating is up for grabs at the places they allow the 'general public,' giving preference to their well-healed staying guests. Week night seating is open; sit where you like, and fewer people are there. Go online to Ritz-Carlton at Half Moon Bay and drool over their photos. All of them are beautiful and give an honest view of the property. Go on a weeknight and enjoy the luxurious views, delicious wine and appetizers. Go somewhere else for dinner. Enjoy!

Room tip: Don't stay here unless you can afford $600+ per night.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. From the minute that we drove onto the property to the end of our stay the service was amazing. We were greeted by name and welcomed. A lovely young woman named Shannon showed us to The Conservatory for lunch while our room was being cleaned. Lunch was great and then we were given keys to our fire pit terrace coastal view room. It was a lovely room but at the end next to some loud pumps. We saw our bellman Rene with the bags and told him about the noise. He immediately went into action and said he knew that room 129 was available and had us check it out. He changed the room for us right there in the hall - it was amazing! It was perfect with a better view and the bed even faces the way we like it. Shannon left a lovely welcome gift of Lavender bath items for us. The rooms are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was large with a separate bathtub and shower. We took walks along the beautiful property. We thoroughly enjoyed the bagpipe player on Sunday night and had dinner at Navios. The service in the restaurant was excellent and the lobster bisque was great. Unfortunately the entrees were OK but not great - I had the sole and it was very bland and my husband had the salmon was was also good but not what we expected. This was the only area that the hotel was less than perfect. We had breakfast in our room and each day it was excellent and to the to the room within 30 minutes of ordering. We had a light dinner the second night outside at the restaurant next to the patio and it was very good.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a special experience in a truly beautiful location. The view of the ocean and cliffs is amazing. We live in the Bay Area and have always wanted to stay at The Ritz Carlton and are so glad that we did!

Dear Barbie726,

First and foremost, happy anniversary to you and your husband. We are thrilled to hear that your experience went above and beyond your expectations from the moment you arrived. It is lovely to hear our ladies and gentlemen left a lasting impression with their exceptional level of service and we will share your kind words with each. Watching the bagpiper at sunset is a memory that will last a lifetime and we are pleased you had the opportunity to experience it. We regret your dishes at Navio were not what you had hoped for and we are grateful for your feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your husband back for another relaxing escape in the future.

Sincerely,
The Ladies and Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay

We live nearby in Los Altos, CA and this is our go to place for Sunday brunch and day by the beach with the kids. The public beach is just a stroll away past the golf course and down the steps. Nice sand for the kids to play and although the water is cold here year round if you are lucky you can can spot a few curious seals swimming close to beach. Half Moon Bay weather is not always great, cloudy and foggy but in late summer usually the fog burns out by midday. The hotel patio with fire pits and green areas by the are great for the kids to play while the adults can enjoy a glass of wine and good chat. The restaurant on the 3rd floor facing the ocean has great service and perfect for a late Sunday brunch after a morning by the beach. No need to stay here overnight if you are local although I'm sure the accommodations and room service is top notch. I easily give then 5 star as their service from the valet to the waiters was superb. Will definitely keep coming here.

If you enjoy understated elegance, great food, excellent service and a location that is simply amazing for quiet and solitude then this is the place for you.

I can't say enough about this lovely hotel. Rooms are clean and updated. We stayed in the firepit room and it was so relaxing to sit by the fire while watching the golfers and the ocean. Very private. Comfortable bed, great big bathroom, awesome amenities. Lots of closet space.

We paid extra for Club access and it is well worth the cost, as it is with all Ritz properties. The food was fabulous and well presented. The Club staff was very helpful. The wine and spirits selection was very good. Excellent views.

The grounds are beautifully kept and easy to navigate. Lovely fir pits and sitting areas are strategically placed to enjoy all day and terrific for viewing sunsets. We lucked out and had the Scotsman serenade us with his bagpipes while watching the sun go down. Simply amazing touch!

All the staff were friendly and greeted you as per the Ritz way. Michael was most welcoming upon our check in and very helpful during our stay. The gents at the valet parking were all very helpful and knowledgeable with directions and suggestions. Although we did not need a bellman, they were all very personable and also a wealth of information regarding the grounds and local town.

There is a great costal trail which I recommend (not overly difficult) and absolutely beautiful beaches to lounge upon. The location of the hotel is in a very scenic area and we were happy to have just 'stayed put'.

The pool is a good size with adult only hours (thank you) and a retractable roof. The pool could use refacing.

We are already planning our next stay! Thank you, Ritz, for being consistent with your branding...it is so nice to go to your hotel and know what you will be getting every single time no matter where in the world we are. Peace of mind for sure.

Room tip: Fire pit rooms that overlook the 18th hole is very entertaining and also has a view of the coast.

Stayed here for one night before heading to a wedding - cute room that was spacious and clean. There is no air conditioning - was offered a fan to assist in cooling when I called the front desk. It was difficult to sleep due to the heat and there is no fan in shower/bathroom so all the heat from a shower heats your room. Cute place but we needed AC and sleep suffered as a result...
