“Lacking hospitality”

Stayed in a very nice room (not ocean view) for a two day conference. Long walk to conference rooms (but that was fine). The room was nicely decorated and large but lacked character. The room had nice in room coffee service but used paper cups for the coffee. The grounds are large as is the main hotel, but it seemed drab and without character. It is trying too hard to be elegant but comes across as fake and boring. The staff were nice, however. I expected much more for the price. A positive note-- the catered lunch was amazing. I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: If you are spending the money to stay here - get a ocean view room in the ocean building- many of th...

After staying at numerous Ritz properties, this one was not up to their usual standards. The location could not have been better so high marks for that. The quality of service is every bit a Ritz, even better. However, the buildings themselves are not as elegant or as well appointed as their other properties. I was greeted well upon arriving late on a Sunday night after a cross country flight. I had requested a room with a balcony or patio but none were available in the main building so was offered a room in one of the detached buildings....a fair walk away but they do offer rides. It was extremely warm in my room and I could not find a thermostat...called front desk and was advised that their is no a/c in the detached rooms! They did say that they would supply a fan if I needed one. Really? They did offer to change my room to one with a balcony and a/c in the main building when one became available the next day. So, one hot night and not in a good way! In general, the rooms are small but comfy enough but noisy with both elevator and overhearing guests in neighboring rooms.
My stay was for 5 days and visited three dining rooms and one large banquet. The food and service all around was excellent.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building if you want air conditioning.

My first visit to a Ritz was an incredible experience. The property sat right next to the Pacific Ocean with breezes flowing thru the room. Beautifully appointed room with a fireplace. Unfortunately, my room was over the main entrance and the window was blocked by the awning and made it dark. Huge bathroom that I wouldn't mind having at home. Great dinner in the formal dining room with after dinner cocktails in the bar lounge listening to live music.
The gym had great views of the ocean and provided bottled water and fruit. As with all Ritz, the perfect is hallmark.
A memorable weekend.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view. Over nite parking is expensive and there is NO street parking in this s...

I must admit we didn't spend much time on the property. I used a ton of points for what was about as special as a regular Marriott in a great location. The band One Direction was staying at the hotel and when I tried to go into the bar area late one night was treated the same as the teenaged girls that were swarming the property. As a hotel guest...a "How can we assist you" would have been nice when I am tired and wanted a drink. Awkward layout and you want to stay in the main building. Service by the firepits was essentially non-existent. They could have acknowledged the birthday girl.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building

After a hectic business trip, I was joined by my wife in Half Moon Bay for some well-earned R&R. Our stay at this location provided the perfect solution. As with any Ritz Carlton that we have ever visited, it is virtually impossible to find flaw with anything. Probably the best way to describe it is 'top shelf service in every way'. If your goals are what ours were, stay here!

Room Tip: This facility offers some great price specials occasionally.

The hotel, located on the bluffs of north central california is stunning. I stayed in the detached bungalows where my dog was welcomed. The hotel is consciously trying to be connected to St. Andrews, Scotland--two golf courses and a bagpipe player at sunset. Food in the main hotel was excellent, but the service in the golf restaurant was average and the decor was off--someone in my group called it mid-west Ramada. Service was slow and disorganized. We grabbed our own table, menus and had to hunt down someone to process our bill The beaches were nice, but even though it was August, far too cold for swimming. A long hike along the coast was a highlight of the trip. If I golfed, I might have been in heaven--two courses an old and a new seemed to be enjoyed by golfers staying there. Someone in my group had a great massage, but at nearly $300, it was quite an extravagant indulgence. Overall, a stunning property, but probably best if you are a golfer. One other oddity, for such an expensive resort, I didn't seem to find an out door pool--an indoor facility, but nothing outdoors. Kind of strange.

Room Tip: We really liked the rooms detached from the main hotel. Far more private and interesting with great...

Can not say enough about the quality of service. The staff was always accommodating and with a smile, they could not do enough to make your stay more enjoyable. The bed was turned down at night with a fire on the screen. The theme of fire through out the grounds, from the entry to the massive fireplaces in the restaurants and the fire pits out side made it feel like a castle on the cliffs of the Pacific. Loved the smore kits.

Room Tip: Walk the Pacific Rim Trail..
