Certificate of Excellence

If you ever have the opportunity to stay at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay... GO... This hotel looks like a castle on top of the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and it is Gorgeous!!! The Staff are exceptional, and the rooms are beautiful... There is a trail that runs behind the hotel along the Coastline that has views that take your breath away.... The sea fog rolls in every afternoon around 4:00 that adds a further beauty. Each night as the sun sets over the Ocean, the sound of a bag pipe rings through the fog and mist .... There really are not words for the experience that you will have at this hotel. Most rooms have a fireplace, some have one outside the room so that you can sit outside, have a glass of wine, and watch the fog roll in.... Just Beautiful...

Room Tip: Try to get a room with the fireplace on the patio, overlooking the courtyard area. This is where th...

Stayed here for one night with my wife for our 2nd anniversary. Overall, a wonderful experience and a top notch resort.

First, the positives... The location is fabulous, with the dramatic coastline and beautifully manicured grounds (and golf courses) and well designed buildings; this has to be one of the most beautiful places I have been. We were in a wonderful room (#676) that had both golf course/resort and oceanfront views, so it was hard to leave! Also, thanks to Kaleen Scott for making our anniversary so special - the employees here go the extra step for sure. The weather was great so we played tennis and spent time around the outdoor area looking over the ocean and 18th hole on the Old Course. Food, while quite expensive, was very good at both Navio and the Conservatory.

There were a few things though that struck me as a bit odd and/or ridiculous. First, it appears that valet parking is mandatory for guests at the main building at a daily rate of $45. I would have been perfectly happy parking myself and paying $15 or so a day. Second, there was a queue of 6+ people during check in (4pm) which seemed a bit abnormal. Lastly, our turndown service did not come until 1030pm, which was pretty bizarre. That said, we would absolutely come back here and strongly recommend the property. The positives certainly outweight the (limited) negatives.

This is a wonderful choice for a special occassion or business meeting/conference. We hope to return at some point!

Stayed for two nights at The Ritz in May. We had a great room that overlooked the 18th green for the Old Course and also had a spectacular view over the ocean. We were celebrating an anniversary and when we came back to our room we had chocolate covered strawberries and wine provided gratis by the hotel. The second night our bed was decorated with red rose petals.
As usual the service at the Ritz is excellent. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return again.

Room Tip: Ask for any room that overlooks the 18th greens of either golf course and you will also have a great...

Everything about the property can be summed up in the word above. The setting is ideal. Suitable for family, couples or corporate ( or partnership) retreats alike. Great service, friendly staff and , hey it's California , so great wine list. The golf course is awesome, a hidden gem, that golf snobs must get their radar. The views from several of the holes are pebble beach-like. I must confess, I did not play the course, but I did walk the holes to take it all in. Again, a gem. Only negative, was the food. Being transparent, I was there in a group, so none of my meals were "off the menus" it was all group meals, so,I can't comment on al la carte, but nothing offered was that spectacular. Although, bacon on the breakfast buffet was great (Cosmo agrees I'm sure). The service by the wait staff was superb! Among the best I've seen in California.

I would strongly recommend a visit when in the Bay Area. 30 minutes from SFO.

Good news: A great location for a hotel. Fantastic ocean views. But the Marriott mindset is just stamped all over it. You know they got it wrong the moment you walk the corridors, they are too narrow for a "real Ritz" and the major corridors are the same width as the others, making navigation hard. The walls are pretty thin, too noisy, etc. Food is ok, and at times good. The staff are pretty nice, as in most Marriotts. The hotel is usually packed, in the best of the Marriott tradition: they know how to book them. Would I go again as a weekend get away? Naaah. Would just fly down to the Ritz in Laguna Niguel. That is a real hotel. ~~~~

Room Tip: Only take an ocean view. That is the best part of this hotel.

We stayed at the Ritz for three days, wow, what a gorgeous place! The view and location is spectacular. We had the privilege of the club lounge with all great food and drink throughout the days. The service was top notch in every area at the hotel. Be sure to walk the beach for sea glass, which is the most we ever collected anywhere we have visited! Short drive to the north to visit "Mavericks", which is a spectacular view from the buffs- you can park at the Mavericks beach lot, but instead of treking to the beach go across the road to the buff side and trek up the buffs to get an awesome overview of the enitre Mavericks coast, well worth it!!

We absolutely loved our experience at the Ritz Carlton HMB. It was our first time away from the kids in 5 years and decided to take some time for ourselves.

The rate we paid was $285 for a courtyard view but were upgraded to an ocean house/ocean view room (wow, how awesome was that?!) and the room was excellent and very large. Having two TVs and large bathroom was great. I read reviews about scraped up furniture but our room wasn't but, yes, the furniture is slightly tired. I've seen rates around $400+ for this room and that's beyond our budget.

The grounds are immaculate and breathtaking and the walking paths along the paths were perfect after a nice breakfast and dinner (both overpriced and pretty average).

The highlight of our stay (beside the room upgrade) was the spa. It was calming and empty (very few guests took advantage of this gem). I highly recommend sneaking time away from the view to enjoy the spa.

Thanks again Ritz HMB for such a wonderful experience.
