“Beautiful Hotel with Great Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2007

My husband and I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay on a recent trip to see a concert in San Francisco. We don't like to stay in the city and usually stay somewhere across the bay, but decided to try the Ritz for an extra special treat. The service was excellent. When we arrived we were greeted very warmly and were impressed with the staff. We had run into a great deal of traffic and were running late to make our dinner reservation back in the city. We called the hotel to let them know that we needed to check in quickly so that we could get back. The bell hop and the service staff were wonderful and took our bags up while we checked in so that we didn't have to wait. They offered to keep our car waiting while we ran up to change. We were so touched when we came back down to find bottled water and some snacks waiting for us in the car. We had a very restful night in our room, which had a beautiful view of the ocean and coast. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the room was so clean and well kept. The bathroom was equally beautiful. My only complaint is that the bathtub is way to short for tall people like myself, but even so it was an enjoyable soak, my knees just had to stick out of the water. We had breakfast brought to our room and the server set it up so that we could take in the view from our bay window while eating breakfast. When the bell hop came to take our bags down he remembered us from the night before and asked us how our concert was. We were very touched that people remembered us.

Our only real complaint was that there was some construction taking place in a room near ours that was noisy in the morning. We called the desk and they quickly put it to a stop. When we checked out we mentioned the problem and they were so apologetic and comped a significant portion of our room rate. Apparently it had been a scheduling error with the contractor. It wasn't a huge inconvenience, just annoying, but we were very impressed by the way it was handled. We will definitely return, especially when we have time to enjoy all of the wonderful amenities that they have there. It was a great experience.

  • Liked — The views are amazing!!
  • Disliked — There was some niose from construction, but the staff took care of it very quickly!

My husband and I just celebrated our 20th Anniversary at the Ritz Half Moon Bay. What a spot! The hotel did everything to make our trip the most memorable, even playing our wedding song when we arrived at our room. This is definitely a spot to celebrate a special, romantic getaway. Didn't see many children and would not recommend it to families. The hotel itself is beautiful, overlooking the bay, with wonderful ocean views. We had a 5th floor ocean view, overlooking the 18th green and the large firepits. This is a golfer's getaway so bring your sticks. I would recommend the Ocean course, it has great views of the water and cliff areas. While we only dined in the casual Mullins, the food was very good. Don't hesitate to go downtown Half Moon for a dinner at Pasta Moon or a breakfast at The Main Street Grille.

Great staff and service, wonderful rooms and views but watch your wallet! Apparently $500 a night is not enough so they have to nickel and dime you with a $25 daily resort fee and $39 a day for parking! Also, resort seems reluctant to willingly follow through with Amex Platinum upgrades. However, management was pleasantly responsive when confronted with the situation.

This hotel is so wonderfully elegant and well-appointed. The rooms are spacious and furnished with beautiful fabrics, etc. We had an Ocean View room on the 5th floor with a gas fireplace. On our next stay we plan to book one of the ground-floor rooms facing the ocean that have patios and individual firepits! I jus want to sit outside with a glass of wine, listening to the roar of the ocean and warming my toes by the fire!

Beautiful property, breathtaking views! Very similar to Pebble Beach area. Staff was very attentive, rooms nice & clean and well appointed. Food very expensive as expected.

We stayed in a cottage home and had a bit of a walk to get to the main building. It was not very easy to get transportation back & forth. We called once for a car and 15 mins later still not there so had to walk up in the rain. A couple of times we waited 10 mins or longer for a car back down to the home ... so we just walked. That was the only negative. If I had it to do again I would prefer a room in the main building (ground level with firepit & oceanview would be the best!)

Again, excellent property & excellent resort. If you venture in town for dinner - Moon Pasta comes highly recommended!

  • Liked — Scenery
  • Disliked — Transportation delays from main building to cottage home.

We stayed here to celebrate our 6th Wedding anniversary and everyone on staff that weekend could not have been more helpful and pleasant. I was contacted by a guest relations coordinator several weeks before our stay to see if she could do anything to enhance the experience. I requested chocolate dipped strawberries and ice (brought my own champagne) to be ready when we checked in and it was. I had also requested a VCR be in the room so we could watch our wedding video, and it too was set up as planned. The coordinator had to track one down since VCR's are somewhat ancient but she did - which I appreciated. We only stayed 1 night because of the price, but it made a wonderful 24 hour get away. That evening while we are out at dinner the turndown service put rose petals on the bed which was a nice touch.

We were interested in having dinner at Navio (in the hotel) but the average price of a entree being $40 scared us away. Instead we had a wonderful dinner at Pasta Moon in downtown. It wasn't as romantic as I'm sure Navio would be, but the food and service was great. We appreciated the shuttle service to the restaurant so we didn't have to drive and it felt elegant to be dropped off and picked up.

We also ate at the restaurant in the Half Moon Bay Inn (downtown) that we happened upon, and had a great meal. Some guests told us they had a great meal at Centrella (also downtown) so we ate there the next day and loved it! We actually ate all our meals downtown that weekend.

We didn't book appointments at the spa, but made a morning out of working out in the fitness center (very nice) and enjoying the steam room, sauna, and co-ed mineral bath.

We stayed in the cottages (Fairway House bldg.) which was a 5 minute walk from the hotel and more private. We didn't mind the walk and had a nice view of the golf course. A view of the water would have been ideal, but more expensive I believe.

The room was spacious, clean, airy, and decorated very tastefully. We brought our own champagne and wine and were glad we did since they had wine in the room for purchase, but it was about $60 a bottle for wine we know we could buy at the store for $20.

We plan on returning here for future anniversaries!

We stayed for a night on our way up to Napa. The hotel was luxurious, the room, bathroom, and bed were great. The staff was helpful and courteous. We didn't go into the city, or dine at the restaurant. We shared some small plates in the casual dining area, and then went back to the room for smores and wine by our firepit. The best part about the room was the bathroom. The firepit was great, but a bit noisy. We also got chased inside by a racoon that wouldn't go away. If the room was a bit closer to the ocean, it would have been perfect. The views are wonderful, and sunset is amazing. We also enjoyed the spa (just went into the roman bath, no treatments) and tennis. The only issue was in the morning. We were checking out, and yet had housekeeping knock on the door twice to ask if we wanted any housekeeping or mini-bar restocking. It would be easy (I think) for them to have a list of who is leaving that day, so as not to bother people. Also, I couldn't find a sewing kit, so they sent one up to me. It took over 30 minutes, and in the end the sewing kit was in the desk. If the person on the phone had simply told me that, it would have been easier! Overall, a nice one-night stay, but not truly worth the price.
