Description: It's Italia opened in 1997 as a San Francisco style trattoria and pizzeria serving gourmet pizzas, house pastas, and creative salads, always with a California Italian flavor, and a wine list of 10-12 varietals. Ten years later, our menu has expanded to include steak and seafood grilled specialties, artful antipasti, and a decadent array of housemade desserts from our pastry chef. Over 120 bottles line up on our wine list from Italy, California, France, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand. As always, we have remained faithful to a local coastal California Italian cuisine, with its cosmopolitan nature, bringing produce and cheeses from local farms, meats and poultry from quality and organic growers, and seafood from a variety of waters. Most importantly, we are a little local community restaurant that serves locals. Lots of locals! Our advertising is mostly word of mouth. Our energy is inviting, positive, and friendly, and when you come in, you are invited to be part of our family.

The prices are reasonable for very good food. Outstanding? No. However, we didn't want to pay for "outstanding" that night so had a very pleasant dinner.

“Terrible service and mediocre food - and pricey to boot.”
Reviewed October 10, 2011

Arrived after the main lunch crowd- about 1:15pm - and the restaurant was half empty. The patio was busy, but we were seated right away. The waiter took our order close to 1:30 - three panini sandwiches and a spaghetti carbonara. Not too complicated, right? When we still hadn't received our meal at 2:15pm, we asked for some bread to stave off our hunger. We were told bread was a "special request", that's why we hadn't been given any beforehand. Whatever. At 2:30pm (one hour after ordering), we were told that the kitchen was busy (the restaurant had emptied out by then) and that it would be "only 5 more minutes". 10 minutes later, we got our COLD panini sandwiches. Are you serious? By that point, we were so hungry we didn't care. The prawn and scallop panini had a whopping two prawns and three scallops, not an avocado in sight, and a slice of manchego cheese that you could read a newspaper through. Skimpy is too kind an adjective, but the price made up for it - $14.50. After our meal, we were promptly handed the bill, and when I asked why we were not offered a dessert menu or coffee, the waiter said he thought we might be eager to leave. I told him that was the first thing he had gotten right that day. What a terrible experience. Save your money for any other restaurant in HMB. It can't get worse than It's Italia.

“A piece of Italy”
Reviewed September 14, 2011

We had Saturday brunch at this gem. The staff was warm and friendly, the service exceptional and the food... unique and delicious!!! I had the breakfast pizza -- so good. My husband had a regular pizza; he liked it, but wasn't as impressed as I was, though he loved the place.
If it's a nice day, sit on the patio. At least take pictures, it's beautiful!!!

“Well worth your time”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

We had a little time to kill waiting to catch a late flight out of SF, so we drove down to Half Moon Bay, and stopped in at It's Italia around 4:00 in the afternoon. Everyone was vary friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and laid back. The menu has traditional selections with some nice individual touches, and the food is well prepared and nicely presented. Later, we noticed that we had left a personal item behind, ad the management was incredibly helpful. An excellent experience in every respect.

“My favorite family restaurant in the entire Bay Area"”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

This is my #1 favorite restaurant in the bay area, all things considered. Of course you can go fancier for couples/romantic but if you need a place that satisfies both the adults' need to eat excellent food artfully prepared, while simultaneously feeding older children (not for babies!), then this is the place for you. Half Moon Bay is a fabulous excursion (don't forget to see the old-timey jailhouse) and the murals painted on the buildings. But DO eat here. Lunch offers paninis that are baked while you wait. The salads are superior; the soups are GENUINELY house-made from scratch. The environment is elegant but not fussy. When I lived here, I travelled over the mountain to eat here at least weekly. After moving to SoCal, this moved to top of my list for dining with old friends and family. Absolutely A+++
