“Comfortable Coastal Suites Near SF”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

I was at the Oceano for a conference, and really enjoyed the proximity to the ocean and foghorn, and the chance to step outside into a really spectacular working fishing community. Our suite was HUGE, especially after traveling a lot lately to big cities with tiny hotel rooms. The staff were great, and the shared spaces like the lobby and meeting rooms were nice. The Spa didn't appear to be open, which was a bit of a disappointment.

Although large and perfectly comfortable, the room wasn't particularly luxurious, particularly for the price. Our suite had a staircase up to the bedroom, but very thin walls; when our next door neighbors went upstairs to bed it sounded like someone was in our room. Also, we were on the side facing the parking lot, not the ocean; I'd definitely recommend requesting a west facing room. I wouldn't go out of my way for the Oceano for a personal trip, but loved it for a conference.

Room Tip: If you crave the sound of a fog horn, definitely go for the west facing rooms

My husband and I booked one night at the Oceano Hotel & Spa through Travelzoo for the day after Thanksgiving as we wanted to quick coastal getaway. We couldn’t have been more pleased with Oceano hotel. Upon entering, the beautifully appointed three story is lobby is welcoming and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Our room was 307 on the top floor overlooking the harbor. I recommend the top floor as the ceilings are high and there is an extra window providing lots of light. We enjoyed both sunrise and sunset views from the balcony and the soothing sounds of the fog horn in the distance. The bathroom is elegant and large with both a granite shower and a separate tub. The king size bed was comfortable. There is a sitting area with a fireplace, large flat screen TV, bar, and refrigerator. Two bottles of water and a bottle of Bogle wine were complimentary. Internet is included, however the wireless didn’t work with my Mac laptop. Normally I would have been disappointed but the views were so spectacular, without an internet connection I spent more time relaxing. Our stay included a $50 coupon for either room service or food at the Oceano Bar. We sat on the bar deck for lunch and the crab salad, salmon tacos, calamari were fresh and delicious. We recommend eating here as lines at the crab shacks and take out places were long and priced the same. We were able to dine in a quiet and beautiful atmosphere without the crowds. Next door is the lively and fun Half Moon Bay Brewing Company with a live band and dancing, plus there are plenty of nearby beaches to explore. The famed surf spot, Mavericks, is nearby.
If you visit during crab season, you can walk down the pier and buy live crabs directly from the fisherman-a must do if you live close enough to cook them up soon! We can’t wait to return. This is a great place and we were blessed with exceptionally beautiful weather in the high 70’s and lots of sunshine.

Room Tip: Ask for a third floor room!

Big rooms, well decorated with lots of places to store luggage. In room safe, dressing gowns & free wifi. Balcony's overlooking the ocean with good choice of surrounding restaurants & great staff. Fog horn did take some getting used to!

We stayed two nights and really enjoyed the area. We had a room on the third floor with
a balcony overlooking the ocean. Wonderful! We plan on going back again and again!
The hotel is only a little more than an hour away from home and a world away. So we can
enjoy it more often rather than drive four hours away to Pismo.

I was very impressed with the cleanliness and size of the suite. It was perfect for my family. I am really picky and this hotel was exactly what I wanted. It is not worn and aged like most hotels. A great value!

We just got home from a quick (one night) getaway to the Oceano. We agree with the other reviewers - the king suite was beautiful and the location was great. Our room directly faced the harbor and we spent a happy hour (or 2), sitting on our deck, enjoying wine and watching the crab boats going out. We had fantastic weather (77 degrees yesterday) and no fog - yes, there is a fog horn in the harbor, but it was not at all annoying. The Oceano is connected to a small mall and many restaurants are within easy walking distance.
The best part of the Oceano is their staff, they went out of their way to make our stay memorable and comfortable. The Oceano's staff is the number one reason that we will return.

We spent one night at Oceano on a mini-getaway. We booked a King suite which was HUGE. It had a very large balcony. The bathroom was very large, with lots of counter space around the sink. Everyone at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. There isn't much nearby and the shopping mall adjacent doesn't have many stores, but we were happy just to hang out and it suited us perfectly.

Room Tip: We actually booked the suite by mistake. I'm sure the regular King room with balcony would hav...
