Review of Johnson's Beach

Johnson's Beach

Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: For nearly 100 years, Johnson's Beach has been a Guerneville summer tradition whose beauty, amenities, and hospitality make it a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike. With its spacious stretch of pebble beach and jagged blue skyline of majestic redwoods, it is the ideal spot for lounging and playing along the cool current of the Russian River. Johnson's fun, family-friendly beach has something for everyone. The roped-off kiddie pool allows toddlers and beginning swimmers to enjoy the river safely, and the summer dam provides deeper waters for more adventurous swimmers. For the ultimate in kicking back or playing on the water, inner tubes are our biggest crowd-pleasers. They can be rented for a whole day of floating, spinning, and splashing. We also rent boats for extra river fun and exploration, plus umbrellas and beach chairs so you can recline in shaded comfort. Our snack bar serves affordable traditional summer favorites like burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream. And you can top off your lunch with a frosty cold beer from our Boathouse while kicking back in a beach chair and listening to oldies streaming from the speakers.

“Off season, not the place to go!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

During the summer, this is the place to go, as it's located in the center of town. But last weekend (which is off season), the place was deserted from the usual river-crowd and there were lots of folks hanging around, who looked less than desireable. We just wanted to set up the lawn chairs and watch the water go by - and do nothing. Not the spot last weekend though, as we would have had to watch our backs. The City needs better loitering enforcement. We'll be back in the summer - with our canoe!

“Good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

Beach is in the center of town which was great as we could walk to it. We were there on a Sunday in September, it was not too busy which was nice. Kids enjoyed a swim while we sat on the stones watching.

“Not like the postcard picture”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

We went to check out canoe rentals and left quickly. The weather was beautiful but the place was deserted except for some homeless folks. Didn't mind them but there may be a reason the police department is right at the corner of the entrance. If we visit Guerneville again, hope we can find another beach/river access as we wouldn't return here.

“Pebbly beach”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

This little beach was a bit crowded when we visited, and we didn't really like the pebbles that much. What is great, is that they rent out tubes and other fun things to play with in the water. Also, there is a little bar with (okay) food (very simple, burger, hot dog..) and beer. Not a bad place to spend a few lazy hours.
