If you are visiting Guerneville for the gay experience, well, this is the center of it all! Yes, it is more expensive than many other options and the rooms (at least the two double bed option) are on the same par as a motel, but there simply is no better place to experience the gay culture of Guerneville. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet resort experience with a massage, etc., this is NOT the place for you. If you are looking for above average rooms and bedding for the above average room cost, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a clean though modest room, to be in the center of it all, and the convenience of a room only steps away, then there simply is no other place than R3. The staff are phenomenally friendly and inviting and genuinely care their guests have a fabulous experience and want to come back. The location is great – an easy walk to downtown Guerneville for food and drink at the other gay bar in town – Rainbow Cattle Co. The pool is THE place to be seen and to watch all the eye candy. Note that many people get up early to claim their lounge chair by throwing their towel down and come back later. So by ten (at the latest) all the lounge chairs will be claimed.

We LOOOOOVVVVVEEEE R3! We have not stayed in the hotel since it re-opened but do spend most sunny weekends by the pool. We love to just kick it with a drink from the bar. People are always friendly and generally in a good mood. It is mostly a place for men...but we (a gay female couple) never feel out of place. Come to where the party is at! You will love it.

Room Tip: Get there early to get a lounge chair, on a busy weekend.

This hotel is the center of gay life in Guerneville. It is a cute little place, but its not the Fairmont. Go if you are drinking and relaxing in a communal environment. Do not come here for business...

The people are nice and friendly and we partied A LOT.

Guerneville is great town for river rafting, fishing, hiking, wine tasting, etc.

Nestled in the redwoods of Sonoma County, Guerneville is a wonderfully sleepy California town along the Russian River. Only 70 miles from San Francisco, if offers a wonderful respite from the city and easy access to some of the finest wineries in the region (including the the Dry Creek Valley, home of some amazing zins and pinots).

Guerneville also boasts a number of gay-friendly bars and resorts. One of the staples in town for many years was the Russian River Resort (or Triple R, as it was known). Once the center of the LGBT community in Sonoma County, the Triple R eventually fell victim to poor management and reckless business practices and, in 2010, the property closed.

Last year the property was purchased by a group of investors and reopened under the new name R3. I'm happy to say that they charm and energy of the old Triple R also returned under the new management.

The rooms, while small, are clean and more than serviceable. The resort offers a beautifully maintained pool, fully-stocked bar and a redesigned kitchen. The night we were there, the food was quite good and the wine selection was exactly what you'd expect from a resort in Sonoma County.

On weekends, the pool is packed with people (gay and straight) from all over. There's often a DJ at the pool, and an on-site massage tent, if you're in need of a little pampering. In the evening, the bar is packed with colorful locals and visitors from as far away as Germany and Australia. Karaoke is also featured on some nights.

The staff is wonderful! Many of folks who staffed the original Triple R are back, and they are a wonderful resource for things to do in the area, including winery tours, trips to the nearby casinos or excursions to places like Bodaga Bay and the Bohemian Grove.

Rates vary by week, and there are several weekend events during the summer when the R3 is completely sold out. So plan your trip early and wisely - and come back to the R3 Hotel.

oh it pains me to say this was the only mistake of my trip to SF area, because the people were nice. I knew this was a utilitarian hotel (55 / night) and figured who cares? I'll hardly be in my room. However. Guerneville is a very small town, and there are a LOT of homeless people which in a town this size is really noticeable. They're at the beach, on the streets, on the blocks off the main street. The townsfolk seem very tolerant of this, however, as a lone woman I didn't feel altogether safe at night walking around and when I asked a local waitress if that was silly she said no.That left me stuck in a featureless room with a big boxy tv, fridge & microwave stacked on a dresser and a tiny high window. Walls are paper thin, the bar downstairs (and also across the street) is loud. I could hear people knocking on the door of the adjacent room as if it were mine. Sort of seems like people get too drunk to drive home and stay at this place. I found it hard to relax in this place with all the noise and coming and going, and after 6 pm there wasn't much else going on and nowhere to go. On the upside, the Guerneville area is stunning. Take the trip to Jenner (seal beach as the locals call it) and back for breathtaking views.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere.
