After coming here by myself in March of 2009 I suggested that my Mom and I stop here on a monther-daughter wine tasting trip. We stayed in the cheapest cabin but it was clean and cozy, and had a lovely and relaxing front porch where we enjoyed some wine we'd bought that day. Breakfast spread is top notch - the most amazing home-made scones I've ever tasted (and I'm not a scone person). All in all a charming little spot, and the most affordable around.

Trying to find a cute place to stay can be kind of difficult when you're as picky as we are. We want clean and cute, at a decent rate, the more interesting the better, but something with style and good taste.

This sweet little vacation spot was built as a motor inn in the 20's. Have you ever seen "It Happened One Night?"- yeah, like that, except with an indoor shower and (unfortunately) no Clark Gable. The cottages have different themes and amenities, such as spa tubs, fireplaces, etc. The decor is adorable.. imagine staying at your uncle's cabin in the redwoods- comfy couch, all wood paneling, lil' roosters everywhere and the entire placed smelled like campfire. Mmm..mmm... good. The room was clean and cozy, the fireplace worked great and the bed was soft and comfy.

But best of all were the treats... the cheese and wine pairing starts at 4:30, and this ain't no 2 buck chuck. It was a great red (with a white option that we didn't try), paired with a delicious blue cheese or goat cheese, and walnuts roasted in olive oil, sea salt and rosemary. (I had to stop my roommate from basically stealing the whole spread to take back to our room.) Most everything laid out was locally produced, which was a neat introduction to the area's treats.

The next morning the continental breakfast included fresh, warm, homemade cranberry scones that WERE TOO DIE FOR, the usual assortment of bread and bagels with delicious homemade jams, as well as fruit, yogurt and another awesome treat- homemade granola. Oh, and the coffee snob amongst us (and *what* a snob, too) was pleased with the coffee offering as well. Quite a rare feat.

The innkeeper, Margaret was an excellent hostess with the ability to make you feel welcomed and at home, without a ton of overly intrusive chit chat. Overall, we found Fern Grove very charming, with excellent amenities and the rarity of being a quality place without pretense. We will definitely try and go back again, the off season rate was a steal, but it'd be worth it at peak as well.

We were a group of 4 couples travelling together and Fern Grove was ideal. We stayed in cabin 18 and it was spacious enough that we could all gather there for a glass of wine before going out for dinner. The rest of our party were in 3 other cottages which were all comfortable, quaint and unique. While the town of Guernville is not that much of a draw, Fern Grove was the perfect central location for exploring the area - redwoods, coast and wineries. 3 days was not enough time! Margaret was fabulous - the perfect host with lots of information and recommendations. Would definitely recommend Fern Grove!

Not to mislead anyone, we stayed in a humble cottage. However, the cottage was very clean, cute, well maintained and located beneath soaring redwood trees. The bed was first class. The beautiful landscaping and gardening at Fern Grove Cottages help make the place special. The breakfast was excellent. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. They were especially knowledgable and helpful about vinyards and wine tastings. The cottages are located within easy walking distance of Guerneville restaurants. We felt that the cottage was a very good value considering the relative costs of B&Bs in this area. You can find more elegant accomodations, but you would pay a great deal more. If you visit this area, be sure to visit Armstrong Woods State Park and Austin Creek State Park. These conjoined parks are spectacular (Enormous virgin redwoods in the former and wide open vistas in the latter). Of course, the Russian River wine country is also very beautiful.

Lucky enough to take an extended Labor Day Weekend and headed to Sonoma County. Thought we'd just drive through Guerneville but after stumbling upon this little gem we decided to stay the night. Hospitable lovely people, nice little sitting areas outside and a beautiful common living room area where a scrumptious continental breakfast is served. Good little mexican restaurant next door to walk to for a great dinner and easy to walk home after the pitcher of beer and chips! Did I mention the beautiful grounds and picnic/bbq area? Don't miss this place!

We really enjoyed our stay. Located in a woodsy area surrounded by trees and flowers. Very well maintained property. The continental breakfast was excellent. Above and beyond most places...how made scones, cakes...granola...yogurt. My only criticism is that I feel it is overpriced. I recognize the entire Sonoma thinks of itself as a special wine country area, but Guerneville is only on the fringe of the wine country area and not in the same category of real wine country places. It is an older property and requires some upgrading of the rooms.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a lovely cottage. The place was recommended in a travel guide and it was well worth following up this advice. The cottage we went for was one of their studio cottages and it was good value as it had a wetbar with fridge (essential for all that white wine you will buy here!) shower facilities, etc and a very comfortable bed - I did not want to get up in the morning! The facilities were very clean and the outside surrounding gardens were amazingly beautiful. It's in an excellent location right by town so it is easy to walk in each evening.

The nice thing about breakfast is that you could take it back to your room on a tray, we did find it a bit stodgy as there were an awful lot of cakes and scones on offer (they were yummy though!)

This is a great place to stop for a night if you're travelling through or for a few nights as it was an excellent base for us.
