When my husband and I became engaged we opened a bottle of Korbel's Sweet Rose that I had picked up when I went to Wine Country with the girls. It was perfect for our occasion.

Since my husband hadn't been to Korbel before, we stopped by on our road trip from So. Cal to Canada to pick up some more of a fav. bubbly. (They doen't sell it in stores) They let us taste a couple again to make sure that was his favorite. We were treated very well, definitely will go back to pick up more in the future.

We went in with low expectations because of all the wonderful vineyards beforehand. But Korbel delivered. They had a great tasting and a wonderful bar to visit afterwards. The atmosphere of the tasting room was not quite as attractive as some of the others. They were not providing a tour the time we were there so we did not get a chance to see the vineyard. It was one of the few that you could not walk around and see the vineyard on your own without a tour because it was across the street. See some other sonoma vineyard reviews here...

The tasting room is located in a pretty are in the Russian River area. There are many sparkling wines and regular wines available for tasting, several not available or at least hard to find commercially. It's a nice tasting room and we've found the staff to be friendly on every visit. We've never tried the tour so can't comment on that. Champagne is fun and a visit to this tasting room is fun.

My wife and I were really looking forward to the Korbel tour as part of our honeymoon, and I have to say we were really disappointed. The location is so cool, with towering redwoods and the classical historic building, and champagne is always good. But other parts left a bit to be desired.

The main problem with the tour was that we didn't see anything that actually has to do with Korbel champagne now. The entire thing takes place in what is basically a Korbel history museum and the tour guide will show you an old device or something, and explain how it was used dozens of years ago. Not that it wasn't interesting, but we kind of wanted to see the actual facilities and vineyards. Also, as part of the tour, there's about a ten minute movie that is rather redundant with what the tour guide had already explained.

Afterward we went to the deli, and weren't too impressed there either. There were about four sandwiches on the menu, and none were terribly distinctive. The sandwiches we got were okay, but certainly nothing to write home about. The views from where we ate were incredible, though.

The tasting room was very nice, and we got to try probably half a dozen varieties of champagne, some of which you can only buy there. This may or may not have been since we went on the tour - I seem to recall that tastings cost money otherwise. We enjoyed the tastings, and almost all the varieties were very good.

Basically, we just hoped the Korbel tour and deli would be better than they were, and we ended up disappointed. Both were certainly okay, and pretty interesting, but tour-wise, Benziger in Glen Ellen blew this place out of the water. I'd still go, to taste the champagnes, but I'd pass on the tour.

We stopped by Korbel between visiting Armstrong Redwoods and driving to the coast. What a wonderful place. The tour and tastings are free and the staff is both energetic and informative. They have a great little cafe in which you can grab a bite to eat as well. We visited both Sonoma Valley adn Napa Valley and this was our favorite place from tour to tasting!
