“Scenic Location”
Reviewed June 16, 2013 via mobile

Really nice place with helpful staff. The cottages give you excellent privacy. Our room was well cleaned. Price is a good value relative to the quality of the rooms. Location when considering activities is superb. Lots of excellent local dining, including Michelin starred Farmhouse Inn in Forestville. Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve is less than 10 minutes away. The California coast is a half hour West. Healdsburg is a half hour Northeast. You are right in the middle of the Russian River wine district. Redwoods, a scenic ocean coast and wine country surrounds this inn. The only major negative is the proximity to the highway which tends to make the place noisy.

The evening campfires make this place stand out. It is a nice way to meet fellow travelers. The sheets were unbelievable. They were so fresh and good quality. Unexpected treat. Breakfast was sufficient and they are working on a breakfast room as now you get in a line to toast your bagel. A little awkward as everything is on little tables and you need a little prep space to get the butter/cream cheese on the bagel. They are improving this soon.

Room Tip: They have a pool. This is one of the nicest places to stay in the area if you are planning on visit...

We decided to spend a few days in the wine country. Since we had not stayed in the Russian River area for a long time, we decided to stay there. The Cottages on Russian River was a real find! Pluses: friendly greeting, well appointed, clean and inviting rooms, scent of redwoods from the trees on the property, evening campfire, continental breakfast accompanied by wonderful classical music, interesting conversation with our owner/host, comfy bed and friendly staff. The cottages are in convenient driving distance to the Russian River and Dry Creek wine districts so there are many, many opportunities for wine tasting. Dining options abound in Guernville and Healdsburg. All in all we had great stay and would return.

Room Tip: There is a variety of room types from which to choose depending on the size you need.

Cute cabins, and friendly owner, warm and welcoming atmosphere, grounds are nicely kept, and the cabins are immaculate. It’s nice to sit around and chat with others at the nightly campfire. More than adequate bathroom amenities. And the beds were very comfortable.

A few little things went wrong: dead battery in the remote, light bulb burned out, but all cheerfully taken care of. They aim to please. And they’re more than reasonably priced for what you get.

The refrigerator and microwave are small. The tiny coffee maker (supplied to all units) is useless, plus missing a brew basket. Again, when I mentioned this, they exchanged it for a full size coffeemaker, also without a brew basket. No real problem–coffee is available in the office.

Yes, there are a few trails–but they’re overgrown--so why mention them on the website? Yes, there is traffic noise, but it dies down at night. Lighted pathways plus bright porch lights from the facing cabins can’t be turned off and the light leaks in between the slats of the blinds.

Absolutely NO utensils supplied in the wet bar. We asked and were given forks, knives, plates, a toaster, etc. Don’t expect to cook a full meal in the kitchenette.

BUT: The main thing to know is that the owner really wants his customers to be happy. If something’s wrong, you can work with him. He’ll negotiate a solution if he can.

We chose this place because it was located in the right spot traversing through that part of California. But it turned out to be a find! The cottage was comfortable and everything was good, but the best part turned out to be the people who worked there... very friendly and very accommodating. We loved it.

We had a great stay at The Cottages. I didn't feel that the location was great, and it was real close to the road, but they are clean, cozy, free wi-fi, the beds are comfortable and the staff is great. We stayed in Cottage 12. It has 2 bedrooms and a bath. 2 twins and a full size bed along with a living room.

Room Tip: We had friends in cottages 10, 4, and 12. They all were about the same in quality. I would have stay...

Stayed 2 nights solo. Hosts very nice, free upgrade. Had to switch rooms because I changed my mind and wanted to stay another night, and they helped move my stuff. Not the most quiet place, as it is right on the main road, but I think its in a great location for redwood lovers! Campfire and smores were fun. Would certainly return. Love the free wifi too.

Room Tip: 2 bedroom cottages are louder but more private and have a couch/coffee table - useful for computing...
