“Not dog friendly”
Review of Stumptown Brewery

Stumptown Brewery
Ranked #12 of 48 Restaurants in Guerneville
Cuisines: Pub
Description: We're all about relaxing on the Russian River. Slow food, slow beer and lazy afternoons on the deck. So lazy, that they can easily roll well into the evening (morning?) hours. We're just a friendly rural [Brew] Pub with good local beer, good simple food and a great view. We don't take credit cards (but there's ATM machine inside) or provide table service (no matter how closely related to the royal family you are): just grab a menu and order at the counter; head over to the bar and get yourself a beer (or otherwise), we'll bring your meal out to you and, while you don't have to, we'll thank you if you bus your own table. We close the kitchen on Tuesdays. Want to walk the pooch? We've over an acre of meadow along the river to run around and swim, and a penned area to the side of the deck for them to dry off before jumping back into the car (and while you have a beer and a bite). If you pay us a visit, we're pretty sure you'll see why we live here.

We went here specifically because both locals and the internet told us it was dog friendly. You can not sit with your dog at a table. Your dog must stay inan enclosure at the far end of the restaurant. This is contrary to the idea of bringing your dog. The people there gave us a hard time about not being happy about it and confused about the 'dog friendly' reputation.
Can't comment on the food or drink, because we left. Disappointed. It was gourmet pizza night, and we were really looking forward to it.

I'm sorry you were misled but, in fairness, not by us, or tripadvisor. There are a number of "not dog friendly" reviews for us here and on yelp (and sadly the two sites seem to be blending). We just try to balance California state health code (that prohibits dogs on our deck) with the needs of our dog owning patrons.

Dog friendly comes down to personal expectations. Some of our patrons are happy to let their dog out of the car, walk them around on the meadow and have them hang out in the penned area, others are not. Some dogs are happy to socialize with other dogs, others are not. I think you'd be surprised at how broad the concept is; we are careful not to refer to ourselves as dog friendly.

The facility overlooks the river and has a great river vibe. Great selection of on site beer. Food is average for a pub. When available try the Bar B Q

I had been wanting to go to Stumptown Brewery for quite awhile so I was glad we finally made it! But the cook of the day was Saucy Mama (?) and I'm going to get this wrong but a traveling guest cook? Her menu was totally Southern but they were out of the fried okra, collard greens, fried chicken. She apologized and said she's trying to order the correct amounts! But the cat fish was fine. So, it is hard to rate the overall experience as this isn't the standard fare. Other than not being able to get the beer battered fish and chips which is what I had wanted......very kick back atmosphere, large deck with lots of seating, nice grassy area and view of the quiet meandering Russian River. Next time.....fish and chips! The wine selection was more than limited being in wine country! Beer is top priority here.

Stopped because photos looked like it would be a fun picnic by the river on the grass with dog and toddler. No dog- they must be kept in a little pen on the side of the deck- so luckily there was shade for her and she stayed in car. Not sure if toddler was really welcome, but people on deck enjoyed her. Went down to grassy area, but only to see if we could get to river. Sign said couldn’t take beer down to grass, so stayed on deck. Deck was nice and shaded. Food was okay. Red ale was okay, but the IPA was pretty good.

We came here because we were specifically looking for a dog friendly place for lunch. It had all the characteristics of an amazing place to take your pup. Unfortunately when we came in we were told there is a specific entrance for people with dogs (understandable), and that while we dined, we’d have to put our 8 month old puppy in a pen at the end the of the deck. Normally, I’d think, “how fun for him!” but there were no other dogs in the pen. What there was was a port-a-potty and a ton of dog droppings with a sign that read, “please clean-up after your dog!” As if people who were dining an entire deck away would know their dog had gone to the bathroom! On top of that, there was limited seating near the pen, so any dogs with separation anxiety would lose their minds.

A few suggestions if you want to be considered “dog friendly” - add artificial turf, install a watering station (since I’m not allowed to give my dog a bowl of water), remove the port-a-potty, and add more seating adjacent to the pen where people can keep an eye on their pups.

There are plenty of surrounding breweries and restaurants (Bear Republic, Laganitas, Brewster’s, to name a few) that have found a way to accommodate their beer loving, dog owning, clientele.

Sounds like when their beach is open, dogs are allowed to frolic freely in the grounds - so maybe it’s safe to visit on the weekend. All I know is I felt Fido-shamed during his visit on a Friday.
