“Peaceful, beautiful, awe inspiring.”

This is a great way to stop and see the redwoods. It's a smallish park with well-marked, easy trails. We did not take the more difficult hike, but we did get to see plenty of redwoods from the Pioneer Trail. If you don't have a full day to visit a park to see redwoods, I'd recommend Armstrong Redwood State Reserve because of its easily accessible trails. Don't miss this one.

“Nice example of well loved state park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Easy access to free parking to see a nice section of the park. If we'd more time, it would have been worth driving in to a less traveled trail. But great easy access to magnificent redwoods. Good interpretive signage at visitor center gives you an idea of what you are seeing.

“Beautiful hidden treasure :) and they filmed some of Star Wars here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Such a grand beautiful setting. Trails in every direction, I just wish you could go off trail here (but of course I understand why you can't) There are some of the tallest redwood trees in the world, ponds, creeks and PEACE. This is a great place to go on a hot day, it is always cooler under the redwoods. You can always find a little spot to be alone with nature. There are flat easy trails, and some good hikes. Horse trails as well. If you stop in the visitor information shop, they will give you a treasure hunt list of things to look for. They did also film parts of Star Wars here (which is the only way I can get my kids to get away from the computer and go for a walk there) If you park in the parking lot, it is free and you just walk right in. Otherwise you can pay a fee and drive in. I alway walk.

“Spectacular. Don't miss this venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

We visited Armstrong on our last day in Sonoma/Russian River. It is barely 30 minutes from Healdsburg. I am so glad we went! Most people think of wine and food for this region, but Armstrong is such a gem. Great way to be up close and personal with the redwoods, some of which are over 300 feet high and 1300 years old. There are easy strolls and harder walks; something for everyone. There is also a paved drive through parts of the park; this area is also open to dogs on leash. We were thrilled to find this park is free of charge. We had a beautiful hike there and came away feeling peacefully refreshed and in complete awe of being so close to the redwoods. Don't miss this place. Sonoma is about more than just wine!

“Great Place to See Redwoods”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

This is a great place to see Redwoods and is probably less crowded than Muir Woods. We visited for an hour for so while taking the long way back to San Fran from Sonoma. It seems like there is definitely enough to do to spend a lot longer here- there are facilities for camping and trails for backpacking.
