We really enjoyed hiking here, there were a variety of trails to pick from with various degree of difficulty. The redwoods were majestic and simply gorgeous.

Love the redwoods and this place is awesome. Tranquil paths through the redwoods, deer sightings. Good visitor center.

I didn't know you could go anywhere in California without your 100,000 closest friends like Yosemite and Muir woods, but you can get away from just about everyone at this reserve just west of Santa Rosa. We found 300ft tall/1400 year old trees, is and it very peaceful and very quite. My aunt has bad knees, so the Pool Ridge trail was a little too steep for her. The area around the Colonel Armstrong tree was nice and quiet too.

The towering redwoods in this reserve create another world of green silence and shade. You can imagine hobbits and faerie creatures around every corner. The sheer immensity of the redwoods themselves transports you to another era, one of untouched green giants. Stunning and magical.

Every tourist goes to Muir Woods...save yourself from the paved roads and tour buses and drive to Armstrong Grove. The trees here are more majestic and there's a near primeval feel to the unspoiled area. Colonel Armstrong, the tree, is 1400 years old. Its 14 ft in diameter and 308' tall. Its just one of the many spectacular specimens in this preserve. Guerneville is a funky little town that really hasn't changed over the years but it has a few offerings.
If you're coming from San Francisco, take the coastal route through Bodega bay and enjoy the ocean views before heading to the Grove. Pack a picnic and enjoy the day!
