“Another world”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

The towering redwoods in this reserve create another world of green silence and shade. You can imagine hobbits and faerie creatures around every corner. The sheer immensity of the redwoods themselves transports you to another era, one of untouched green giants. Stunning and magical.

“Worth the extra drive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

Every tourist goes to Muir Woods...save yourself from the paved roads and tour buses and drive to Armstrong Grove. The trees here are more majestic and there's a near primeval feel to the unspoiled area. Colonel Armstrong, the tree, is 1400 years old. Its 14 ft in diameter and 308' tall. Its just one of the many spectacular specimens in this preserve. Guerneville is a funky little town that really hasn't changed over the years but it has a few offerings.
If you're coming from San Francisco, take the coastal route through Bodega bay and enjoy the ocean views before heading to the Grove. Pack a picnic and enjoy the day!

“Most enchanting redwood groves in Sonoma County”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

Been visiting this reserve for 50+ years and it never stops enchanting, from many huge big old-growth redwoods on the valley floor to the stunning hikes along the ridges above the Austin Creek. Now that I live in the vicinity, it's a pleasure to get back here often, drive the narrow road up near the campgrounds and head out on a trail, where one should usually sees raptors, turkey vultures, feral pig and/or peccary tracks and plenty of long vistas of mixed forests and grasslands. Still trying to figure out how raccoons managed to open the heavy door of my 1962 Chevy pickup and ransack the cab for food, when we camped there summer of 1978.

What a beautiful walk through the woods. We enjoyed the scenery and the redwoods are amazing. It is definitely worth the trip and I would not spend the time driving to Muir Woods if you are visiting wine country. This should do it for you.

“Tall trees near the coast”

The park is a great place to camp and spend family time. When my son was small we would camp there and play in the stream. Loved it!
