This boutique hotel or B&B is something I found on Groupon. It offered a great deal for a 1 night stay and chef tasting menu. We did not plan on going to the Russian River area but were so glad we did. What a beautiful drive from Napa through all the lush tree-lined highway through the mountains. Quite a change from vineland! We were intrigued to see what the Applewood Inn would look like since we had stayed in some pretty high-end places in Napa. It was a wonderful surprise in the forest is how I can explain it. We had cottage style room with a walk out private patio, couples shower, fireplace, all the nice finishing touches to make our stay very comfortable with a view of the trees and greenery everywhere. Our dinner in the restaurant was absolutely delicious and the wine pairing was flavourful. Don't hesitate to stay at the Applewood Inn if you want to find "something a little different".

Very nice place to park yourself and a loved one while exploring the Russian River area, northern Sonoma, and even the Sonoma coast. Highlight: Applewood's restaurant -- MUCH better than we expected, and topped only, in the immediate area, by Farmhouse, which is practically in its own class for a memorable dining experience. Also: nice rooms and baths, nice quiet grounds and pool, short drive to a GREAT redwood grove (Armstrong Woods State Park), and a walk to Guerneville, which is funky and charming, gay and straight, upscale and downscale -- all at once (you must experience it). My wife and I enthusiastically recommend Applewood. Only quibble: The staff seemed a bit distant. Though sometimes, I must say, it's nice to be left to yourself.

We chose to begin our honeymoon trip to CA by staying at Applewood Inn. The property is lovely, situated on the edge of a redwood forest. The Inn itself is lovely, but the rooms need to be upgraded,. The furniture is looking a bit worn, but the bed was very comfortable. Staff was very accommodating.
The complimentary breakfast was very extensive, lots of fancy choices. I would suggest adding some plain cereal and bread options, some people cannot handle a big meal so early.Great coffee! We had dinner in the restaurant one evening, very good quality food.
Even though i mentioned several times that this was our honeymoon, Applewood was the only hotel that did not provide a treat (wine or some other goodies) in the room upon our arrival.
Guerneville itself is a cute town, we enjoyed some of the restaurants and the small town feel.

This was our second stay at the Applewood Inn. We came back because our 1st visit 3 years ago was great. We were not disappointed upon our arrival. From the setting, the personnel, the breakfasts and restaurant you will enjoy your stay. Since our last stay they now have a Spa available if you want to pamper yourself. The restaurant is open for breakfast for tenents only but the full restaurant is open in the evening for the public. If your plans take you to the Sonoma/Napa area in California, check this location out for your lodging. The website is www.theapplewoodinn.com and you can check out all the rooms etc.

Room Tip: From what we've learned any room would be fine.

This Inn is run as a small boutique hotel, although like a B&B, it comes with a full breakfast (gratuity not included). Our room, in the original, historic building, was somewhat small, but with 5 star bedding and linens. A wonderful night's rest - and an outstanding breakfast the next morning in the restaurant overlooking the lush courtyard.

We would definitely return.

Room Tip: If you sleep with your window open, avoid the rooms above the roadway in the original building.

My husband and I stayed overnight for a quick getaway. We had a lovely stay.

We arrived a little late (7:15pm), but the first thing I smelled, while getting out the car, were the fresh flowers. The linen in the room also smelled so fresh! We had a lovely suite, which had a nice view of the redwood trees -- which was lovely to see waking up in the morning.

For dinner we enjoyed the Chef's Tasting Menu with wine pairing. Then for breakfast we enjoyed the French Toast with Bacon. It's the best French Toast I've had for a long while.

We also enjoyed a couple's massage and left feeling super relaxed.

Overall, we had a wonderful time.
