“Loved it!”
Reviewed October 23, 2009

We visited North Coast Country Inn for our 20th anniversary and couldn't have been happier. Our room was clean and so nice with a fireplace and private deck. The grounds are pretty and lush, with lots of trees and floweres. Beaches are close!

Breakfast was delicious with a good assortment to choose from. Phil and Sandy are super friendly and welcoming. You leave there feeling like you've visited friends. We'll certainly go back another time...thank you!!

They are pet friendly as well.

This is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. The North Coast Country Inn is a beautiful B&B just outside of Gualala. The six individual rooms are all decorated to a very high standard and have fireplaces and kitchenettes. There's also a great selection of books and board games to utilise and other nice little touches of complimentary wine and chocolates on arrival. The Innkeepers, Sandy and Phil, provide wonderful hospitality, not to mention great breakfasts! The surroundings are beautiful and you can't help but forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life whilst you soak in the (private) hot tub staring at the stars! I will most certainly be back soon.

If you want to get away from it all then this is the place to head to. The surrounding coast line is amazing and the surroundings at the Inn and the hospitality are amazing. I would certainty recommend this as a stay for anyone seeking R&R. And don't forget the excellent food.

My husband and I took a trip to the coast and thought that Gualala looked like a nice place. We made reservations at North Coast and we're pleased with the B & B upon arrival. There was wine and chocolates waiting for us, and Sandy was very warm and welcoming. The B & B has no TV or phone (and no cell service)...so you will just have to deal with being very remote during your stay. My husband was able to pick up a weak WiFi connection from somewhere in Anchor Bay...but that was it. Sandy made us delicious breakfasts each morning and there was plenty of sightseeing to do. I recommend going down to the beach in front of the B & B. Although there are many stairs to go down, it was a wonderful, secluded beach. We also made a trip down to Bowling Ball Beach. This was also very nice.
The towns (Both Anchor Bay and Gualala) close up early. Pretty much nothing going on except "Bones Roadhouse". This is a great place for an evening drink (and wonderful ribs!!). We also ate at Redwood Cafe (in Anchor Bay). Very fresh and delicious!
As far as the B & B goes, I think the only problem that we had was that it lacked certain touches. Minor items that add a lot would have been robes in the room, turn-down service, cleaning out the coffee pot and/or cups after first night of staying there, blow dryer in the room (if there was one I didn't see it), etc. Although these items are not necessary...they really do add to the B & B experience.
Overall, I would recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.

We're back from three nights at the North Coast Country Inn B&B in Anchor Bay, just above Gualala, and highly recommend it to you. Their website, www.northcoastcountryinn.com, will give you an accurate overview. The cottage-style rooms are large, comfortable and cozy, all of them with decks, kitchenettes, fireplaces and more than the expected amenities (except TV, a blessing to us). We especially enjoyed the country gardens, outdoor hot tub, grassy meadow, pine-forest setting and overall relaxing and unpretentious ambiance. Sandy and Phil Walker are gracious and attentive hosts, and Sandy serves a terrific full breakfast in the inn's attractive breakfast room. Room rates, just under and just over $200 a night, are a reasonable value.

The inn is dog friendly, except for two elegant and romantic ocean-view rooms. On our next visit, we'll request the same Gallery room with its large enclosed deck: perfect for Gracie and for us to relax with a good book and glass of wine. A highlight for Gracie, our Golden Retriever, was hanging out with the inn's mascot, Reggie the yellow Lab, a good and mellow guy. They had fun on our deck and chasing each other and playing fetch at the meadow. A highlight for all three of us was the better part of a day picnicking, walking and beach-combing at nearby Gualala Point Regional Park.

Anchor Bay offers two restaurants, the outstanding St. Orres (rather pricey) and excellent Redwood Grill (quite reasonable, with a dog-friendly patio). There are several restaurants down the road in Gualala.

North Coast Country Inn B&B is added to our list of favorite North Coast destinations.

I stole my boyfriend away for the Labor Day weekend after finding this delightful Bed & Breakfast on mendocino.com. The owners were wonderfully kind and welcoming to us. We stayed in the Aquitane room. It was nice and roomy with plenty of space to sit and lay around on a lazy weekend. The kitchenette was a wonderful perk. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful place to get away.

Sandy, the Innkeeper fixed wonderful breakfasts every morning. I'm not normally a morning person but I got up just so I could enjoy her cooking.

  • Liked — the wonderful spacious rooms
  • Disliked — no bathtub, but it was a really nice big shower

We recently stayed here (Gallery Room) and all the folks who have written past reviews are very accurate and describe this place well. Its very nice having your own detached suite with well stocked kitchenette. Rest easy about the highway noise issue. This is such a remote area that there isn’t much traffic period and we heard none at night. If the moon is bright and full and streaming through the skylight there are pulling drapes on the floral canopy bed. Excellent breakfast, we spent a couple hours eating with seconds on tea and bread puddings with whiskey sauce! Lots of steep garden paths/steps and a hilltop lawn and garden for relaxing.
Have a great time here!

  • Liked — Just getting away and being pampered.
  • Disliked — Kinda on the expensive side for B & B's or Inns. A bit of traffic noise in the middle of the day.
