Pros: The beds were decently comfortable. They had wireless internet, good tasting breakfast, and the shower was decent. The owner was very kind. Could hear the frogs from the river.

Cons: The bathtub was dented, the sink was chipped. The closet doors and the vanity doors were just curtains. It needed more soundproofing, as you could clearly hear voices from the reception desk below in the bathroom. There was no A/C in the room so we left the window open all night to keep cool. This hotel was also extremely expensive for what you get. The breakfast started at 8am, which is quite late and had little variety.

Room Tip: Upstairs is better. The walls and floors are paper thin. Also, River side is less expensive and...

We stayed three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff was friendly, accommodating and made us feel right at home. The location is within walking distance of several shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this inn!

The Gualala Country Inn was clean and comfortable and certainly a good value (inquire about mid-week specials). The owner collects not-so-valuable antiques and has decorated the entire place with them, so if you are looking for uncluttered surroundings during your get-away you might want to steer clear.

River view and ocean view rooms are offered, and we opted for the less expensive river view which actually also gave us a glimpse of the ocean. The gardens, which were the most prominent view are lovely. The rooms are well insulated and have gas fireplaces if you are there during the cold months. We happened to be there during a heat wave in Northern California, and the coastal setting proved to be a wonderful escape from that.

Not much to do in Gualala but it is near good hiking in state parks. We found the setting to be just the thing for a quiet get-away.

Room Tip: Some rooms have an ocean view, others a garden and river view. It's right on Hwy. 1, but the roo...

We felt the love of Linda, the owner, in our quaintly decorated room (full of teddy bears) and in the very nice breakfast spread, as well as her knowledge about events and other things to do in the area.

Room Tip: our room was ocean-river view, facing HWY 1 - so it was a bit noisy in the morning when we left our...

We stayed here one night on a road trip with three guys. the room was about $100 all in with breakfast and three beds. its in a good location - Gualala isnt exactly huge - you'd need to stay in another city for a hotel to be in a bad location really. the manager was nice and helpful and despite being a vegetarian - completely sold us on the bbq place Bones Roadhouse up the road. cant complain about the accommodation at all. the breakfast room has a lovely view (the multitude of teddy bears did freak me out though) good spread for breakfast too.

My boyfriend planned a getaway for my birthday and chose the Gualala Country Inn as we wanted to visit Mendocino and this seemed like a good option for a bed and breakfast type hotel. The owner greeted us upon our arrival and offered us information about the area explaining to us the store hours and good places to eat nearby. He said his wife normally handles the check-in and she was out taking care of other things. The room my boyfriend reserved was the Horizon Room which per the description offered the following ~ 180-degree view of the ocean and river from this hexagonal room, a loveseat and a desk. The view is of the river running into the ocean and of the highway that runs through the small town. Our first impression was to leave your shoes on the carpets feel and look very dirty. The rooms are decorated in a country oak décor and are in need of renovation; bathroom paint is pealing, no fan to eliminate the steam from the shower, a dorm sized refrigerator sits on the floor between the shower and bathroom counter. Atop the refrigerator is a microwave and coffee maker - not at all appealing as I'd never think to eat or prepare food in a bathroom. During our stay the internet was down, the owner told us that he was working on this that day and if he couldn't figure it out he'd fix it on Monday (it was currently Thursday). Not that we needed this to make our stay more memorable it would have been a nice convenience as our cell phones didn't work in Gualala and we couldn’t research things to do while we were there. We stayed two nights – breakfast (bed and breakfast) in the mornings consists of Costco bagels, muffins, coffee and juice. When leaving for the day, we saw that the housekeeping staff had their children in the rooms with them as they cleaned. After spending the day in Mendocino we decided to pick up some bakery items from the nearby shopping center, chocolate chip cookies, Mexican wedding cookies and sugar cookies some of our favorites! Our mistake apparently was leaving these on the coffee table and desk as the next morning the entire bag was filled with ants and the items went into the trash, talk about throwing away money. We brought this up to the owner’s attention and she apologized and said they'd not had this problem in a very long time, especially in the Horizon Room. My take on it overall is that we should have been compensated somehow, if anything to offer to replace the bakery items. For a room that a premium price was paid for a view at $180 per night we definitely won't be back. A week later I called the owner and shared with her our experience. She again apologized and offered to refund 20% of our stay to my boyfriends account, she also said that the internet was indeed up and running and she'd not received any other complaints. Why wouldn't our devices work? Our stay was in March as was my conversation with the owner and her offer to refund 20% of our stay. As of today (May 18) nothing has been credited despite my call to follow up. She said she watched her husband credit this in their system herself so she knows it was done. My boyfriend has checked his bank account so something doesn't add up. If you chose to stay here just know that this is more of a Motel 6 experience. If you purchase their premium upgraded rooms that are above the front desk and breakfast area, all conversations that are had below your room can be heard loud and clear including the front desk phone ringing. The owners were pleasant; the hotel needs a good cleaning and lots of TLC.

Gualala Country Inn is just that, a delightful country Inn with fantastic views of both the ocean and the river! When you enter the office you feel like you are stepping into a warm friendly home that you have been cordially invited into. The owners greet you and make you feel completely welcome with the tea and coffee available in the lobby as well as the rooms. The continental breakfast that is served is delicious and generous. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot, which was very much appreciated after a brisk outing to the beach. The corner fireplace is a nice touch as well. The owners are clearly familiar with the area and helpful when we inquired about beach access and restaurants. We definitely will be returning to the Mendocino Coast and will be happy to stay at the Gualala Country Inn.

Room Tip: Pets are welcome
