“Fantastic way to revisit Muskoka and Rosseau Lake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

My husband grew up in Ontario and has fond memories of the Muskoka lakes. So, we came back for a visit (from BC). Windermere House was the perfect place to stay - an historic inn with phenomenal lake views combined with outstanding service. The food was so delicious we stayed put and tried the wide variety of menu items. And the front desk staff were extremely helpful to connect us with the marina to rent a boat to tour the lake. Our personal boat tour was the highlight of our trip. The pool and recreational activities at the resort are wonderful. We look forward to recommending Windermere House to others and for our return visit.

Room Tip: Lakeview rooms are worth the price! Very enjoyable.

We arrived on Sunday after playing a round of golf at the quaint Windermere Golf Club and our check-in was a non issue. As advertised and recommended on tripadvisor we booked a second floor room with a balcony and the view was wonderful.

We decided on the pub for dinner and that was a mistake. First they were out of pulled pork, second my waitress got my order wrong and third how can you mess up a blt? Try with dry (stale ) bread and enough mayo to fill a thimble. The sandwich lacked ingredients ( one strip of bacon, not thick with stuff at all). To make things worse our waitress never came back around and we had to beg for a glass of water. Perhaps she thought my pre-dinner drink was to last for the whole meal. After all who does not like a rye and ginger ( which she spelt and giggled about as she placed it on the table ) with a blt? For $70 we got a blt, a drink, 2 glasses of wine and a wrap. NOT good value.

After a restless night I went down for the free coffee only to find out they were out of paper cups to go back to the room. Thankfully we did get the last one although we did see people later drinking coffee out of highball glasses.

The girls at check out were great and the golf staff ( will review that later ) exceptional!

Room Tip: Second floor balcony rooms with lake view are exceptional.

We stayed one night at the Windermere House in May 2012.

Overall a great stay. Service was friendly, beautiful property, and the room was tasteful, clean, very comfortable bed and good water press (both very important of course!). Lots of nice outdoor areas to relax whether it be in the Muskoka chairs on the lawn, the pub patio or wrap around veranda.

Best part - there are two great restaurants on site (plus a sushi bar). Both are run by O&B and definitely lived up to their reputation. We had drinks on the pub's patio overlooking the property and water and dinner at the Rosseau Grill. The pub's menu looked very nice and our dinner at the Grill was fantastic. Highly recommended and I love just being able to walk downstairs.

The stay also includes a hot buffet breakfast, not to the same quality (as one would expect from a buffet) but decent for what it was.

Would definitely stay and dine there again!

I had always wanted to stay at this historic property so jumped at the chance when a Team Buy deal came along. The grounds are gorgeous and the view of the lake is beyond compare. It's unfortunate though that the check in time was so late, 4pm, which left us no time to take advantage of the amenities. Also, I had requested an upgrade to lake view, fully prepared to pay the price difference, but was told all the rooms were booked. This did seem odd, since it was a Sunday night and the parking lot was virtually empty, we counted only 8 to 10 vehicles and the dining room at dinner and breakfast the next day was most certainly not busy or crowded. Regardless, the garden view room was large, super clean and the bedding was amazing, the best sleep we've had in a long time. Another place to cross off my "bucket list".

My friend and I stayed for two nights at Windermere House in Muskoka and had a great time. We wanted a short fall get-away to hike and see the fall colours. The staff were exceptionally helpful, giving advice on where to hike and what to do. The beds were comfortable, with soft luxurious linens and great choice of pillows of different thicknesses. The washroom was a small, but the shower was great. We had asked for a lakeside view, but none was available. Our room was nonetheless lovely, with a balcony that looked over the garden. The highlight for us though was the dining. The hotel has a fabulous restaurant and I had the best calamari of my life there! Ordered it two nights in a row. They also had a mushroom soup that is one of the best I have ever tasted. (I hunt and eat wild mushrooms so I am particular about my mushrooms!) They very graciously accommodated food allergies as well. Finally, the setting for this hotel makes it worth every penny. It sits on the shore of a lake with a fabulous view. I'm sure the place is packed in the summer, but we were delighted to see it in a quiet time. We returned to the city rested and happy, and are determined to visit again.

Room Tip: You pay extra for a lakeside view - but if that is what you crave, it will be worth it.

I stayed at the Windermere last summer when I was golfing in Muskoka and found the restaurants, bars, amenities and location were all fantastic. Whether it was O&B, or the back patio for a cocktail, it was a very comfortable and relaxing experience. I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Lakeview rooms are spectacular.

A group of us stayed there for 1 night the weekend after Labour Day. We had rooms on the 3rd floor, which are the best. The rooms are lovely, good size, comfy beds and very clean. We had lunch on the patio when we arrived, and it was really good. Nice menu and good service. Not so much for the breakfast the next day. It was in the dated back dining room and the service was terrible. The help yourself buffet was empty, not even any plates. We asked for tea and our waiter brought hot water and poured it in our mugs, then left. We thought he would come back with the tea, but never did. I looked around and noticed a box of tea at the front of the room, and went to get it myself. I guess he forgot to bring it. Strange. The food was just OK, nothing special. The pastries seemed store bought and a little stale.
Muskoka is one of the most beautiful places on earth and Windermere House is a lovely place to stay, I highly recommend it. It has great views of Lake Rosseau, a nice small beach for the kids, a nice lobby bar and clean, bright rooms with soothing decor and modern bathrooms.

Room Tip: Always choose rooms on the 3rd floor, they are the most recently renovated.
