There are some steak houses in the area that target the tourists with fancy buildings and decor, but don't always deliver on the food. I had always thought AJ Spurs was one of those. To my surprise, they actually have a great staff and very good food.
Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing we all noticed was the huge Bison standing against the wall. Other western themed decor was also present and tastefully done, as western decor goes. Our party of 6 was seated immediately, which surprised me since this was a Friday night on President's Day weekend. Upon being seated, we were asked for our beverage orders. Not long after that, our drinks arrived, along with our family style beef & vegetable stew along with a bowl of black beans and a bowl of salsa. The waiter explained that most people will combine all three in the soup bowl. OK, so I did and it was delicious. Next came our salads. These were generous portions and the greens were fresh. The main course came right behind these in a very timely manner. Mine was a rib eye steak, medium rare. It was probably just a little closer to medium, but it was still very tender so I had no reason to complain. It was 14 oz. and very good. Ice cream was included in the price so we all enjoyed a bowl. It too was pretty good. Good food, good service, overall good experience. Well done!
I haven't got a single negative thing to say about this place. It will remain on our list of places we will visit again.
