The building is amazing, it's like it's been transplanted from the movie set of a western. Some of the other buildings in the town are the same, like the bar across the road. I had a smallish room with just space for two single beds, but it still had everything required including bathroom and working air conditioner. I don't think it had a fridge or a microwave like modern hotels might, but there was working wi-fi, which matters more to me. It was spotlessly clean and the owner was very welcoming and friendly. The bar/restaurant on the ground floor served excellent food and beer at good prices, and seemed to be popular with the locals, which is always a good sign. The breakfast was splendid and included a big choice of items.

We were looking for a property in or near Yosemite NP and came across this lovely B & B in Groveland, CA. It is located about 30 minutes to the west entrance of Yosemite but approximately 1 hour from Yosemite Valley. The hotel is on the main street - reminiscent to an "old west" town and across the street from a fantastic saloon and ice cream shop. Our room was on the first floor and next to the back entrance of the hotel. Our room had one queen bed and full sofa, perfect for our family of three. I was a bit worried about noise, as our room was next to the general restrooms used by restaurant guests, but we had no problems at all. The breakfast buffet was nice, offering a selection of hot and cold items. Staff were pleasant. We used this hotel as a base for visiting Bodie, CA which is northeast of Yosemite NP. (Note, Bodie is an amazing ghost town and well worth the visit. It was founded during the Gold Rush era and the last inhabitants left in 1940s. They took what they could and left the rest leaving buildings, household furnishings, and store goods, which allows visitors to get a glimpse back in time. Well worth the visit if you can fit it into your itinerary!) In hindsight, I wish I had booked one night's accommodation in Yosemite east followed by a night in Hotel Charlotte on the west. All in all, however, this was a beautiful property and if it fits into your travel route, I would certainly recommend it!

We had booked this hotel in March and when we arrived in July we were told we had been up graded to a house and that we had been emailed about this - we had not been emailed and we were very disappointed as we wanted to stay in the town. The house was well equipped and quiet but not what we had booked and not what we wanted. So be careful when booking as you may not be in the hotel at all. The breakfast was basic but enjoyable.

Room Tip: Check in advance if you will definitely be in the hotel

My family and I stayed here while we visited Yosemite. Its a nice hotel with great food! The staff here is very nice and willing to answer any of our questions. They also gave us a lot of tips and what to check out when we left to go to Yosemite. This will be the only hotel I will stay at in Groveland.

Hotel Charlotte did not live up to expectations. We booked an apartment but this turned out to be a 10 minute drive from the actual hotel. This was not shown on the booking. Apartment needed some TLC, handles missing of wardrobes, wardrobe doors didn't close properly. Whole apartment needed a freshen up. Also the apartment was very hot when we arrived as the air conditioning hadn't been switched on so we had a difficult nights sleep.

We didn't get a room at the hotel, but at the vacation rental in the Pine Mountain Lake gated community. The rentals are managed by the hotel, and worked out well for us - family with 3 boys. Nothing to write home about, but worked well for our visit to Yosemite.

Would probably choose a place closer to Yosemite Valley next time. It's a bit more than hour each way from Groveland to Yosemite Valley - which can be a drag after a long hike in the Valley. Of course, you need to plan ahead if you need a nice play to stay in or close to the Valley.

We arrived at the hotel excited, having read so many good reviews. The hotel seems to be suffering a bit from its summertime success. Breakfasts, which are included, were good for a small buffet, but on both mornings of our stay there was zero interaction initiated by staff who were going about their business setting things up. This certainly didn't mesh with the folksy friendly image the reviews seemed to sell. Overall review, something around an average stay but expecting more based on cost and glowing reviews.

- We were in room 6 (apparently Charlotte's favourite), which was small but cute. The bed was comfortable with a view of a roof - thus, no view. That said, in the afternoon, it does get some nice natural light. The bathroom was adorable, with an old claw tub that reminded Mrs. of her childhood. WIFI access was excellent.
- The breakfast was very good. Mr. loved the pancakes and sausages! However, as mentioned the hotel staff in the dining area has problems acknowledging guests. We were there for two breakfasts and never even had a "good morning" said or a smile sent our way. Yes, we were there at exactly 7:30 both mornings (breakfast is not served until 7:30), and so there seemed to be some setup still going on, but surely there is time as well for a simple greeting in a place that has been singled out for its service?
- We would love to rave about a dinner, but when trying to eat dinner at the hotel on the second night, the restaurant was full. Our mistake for arriving after a large group? We sat ourselves and proceeded to wait. We watched the server (I am guessing the owner) deal with two tables, one very large. Still, no acknowledgement that we were there. Maybe an "I'll be right with you"? Someone from another table saw the lack of attention coming our way and handed us menus. We still waited. Finally, we left and went to the saloon across the street where we got AMAZING service and a fast, tasty meal.
- It Isn't all bad, we had a nice, informative check-in experience and the offer of help from the cleaning staff when struggling with the ice machine.
Hopefully this review doesn't come off sounding too negative, but this experience really goes against everything we've read. A relook at staffing/scheduling during the busy season could make a big difference when it comes to the service side.
